new to mods and everything at all, honestly
hi! i started stardew early this week and i'm loving it, i found out there are mods, but i really wanted to know one thing
since it's my first time in the game a want to have a "default" vanilla save, the one i'm currently playing
but i wanted to have a mod save as well, is it possible to have both saves? or if i install mods i won't be able to enter my first vanilla save?
along as that, is i install mods in a already created vanilla save, would i be possible to move back to vanilla with no mods?

sorry the questions are many and i'm lost, would really appreciate the help! thx

Yes, playing with mods will be done via SMAPI. It's the mod injector/mod loarder for SDV. Meaning the vanilla game files are left untouched.

If you want to play vanilla, then you use the vanilla exectuable
If you want to play modded, then you need to boot up the game via SMAPI.

Then you need to only remember which save file is vanilla or modded.

Do yourself a favor and use a mod manager like mod organizer 2 it makes checking for updates way easier and none of the mods ever actually touch the game files so you can always revert to vanilla whenever.

Manually, but it will check and tell you want you can update or not. Or if something is outdated. Best use the smapi log uploader for that.

https://smapi.io/log

Everytime you boot up the game or it crashes it generates a log for you to upload if needed.
Nexus(which is were nearly all international mods are hosted) has a your downloads section for each game. There you sort after update "date" for an easy overview of what just got an update.

RE: Mod Organizers. Some people manage their modded game fine with it, but it is generally not recommended to use them, because they often cause issues. If you need to use one then use Stardrop, that was specifically made for SDV.

I recommend reading getting starter on modding page of stardew wiki.

It should be enough to inform you about the setup.

Modern mod managers are confusing. Most are bloated with features average player don't need.
SMAPI informs you if your mods are outdated (in console window it opens) so you can take a decision to download an update if you want to.
Mod install process as a whole is not a rocket science either (unzip. move folder, play) so no need to use an extra tool for this purpose as well.
Yeah, it's sooooooo easy compared to other games. I'm not joking, Have been modding my games since I was 9 or so.

Having a simple mod folder to drop your mods into is so easy and comfortable, pretty nice for troubleshooting as well. No need to keep multiple backups of modding stages (in case some process breaks something) because it won't override gamefiles.

No, you need SMAPI first and foremost to even play with mods. Then you link SMAPI to your mod manager(If you want an MM for SDV). SMAPI needs to be installed for mods to be loaded into the game.

I will agree with this notion before further questions.

Please check guide for Windows in that page too. You can also create two seperate packs, but keep in mind you should remember which farm is modded and which is not (best option would be making backup tbf).
