What to do with Iridium quality items?
This is the first time I've ever reached year 2. I -finally- got Forraging up to lvl 10, after so many trees and stumps, and I got the trait that lets you always forage iridium quality items. Question is: What's the best use for them, beyond gifting? Like, these Salmonberries I have, I -was- using them to make Jelly, or wine, but I'm unsure what to do with these iridium quality ones, since I was told that jelly is based on the item's -base- quality value, not their current quality value.

the wiki has a handy table with all the sell prices. as a rule of thumb putting something in a jar/keg will always be worth it no matter the base ingredient quality. there's only a handfull of exceptions, usually if you don't have artisan perk.

I usually use basic quality and silver fruit/vegie to make processed products and sell items directly with gold and iridium quality

What happens when you finally only get iridium forages is truly nothing. You'll use the forages in the exact same way as you were before, they just are worth more when selling. There is one benefit specifically with truffles as you can sell the iridium truffles without turning them to oil; 1,250g for an iridium truffle compared to 1,450g for the oil. A decent time save for a little bit less money and you don't have to make oil makers either.

But what you were doing with your forages before, you'll continue doing that.

Oh and I would recommend not to put salmonberries or blackberries in kegs or jars. Salmonberry wine is so bad. Six days to turn 5g into 21g. They are worth more in jars compared to wine but even then, so are every Spring crop. It's just not worth the time, in my opinion.

dont know if you have learned to use mods yet, but there is a mod that lets you keep the quality of the product going in to make the same quality coming out, In other words if you put iridium fruit into a keg, you get iridium quality wine , with no need to age it in the cask.
I use it all the time.

its called ARTISAN GOODS KEEP QUALITY

Eat them. Iridium gives you more Health and Energy.

it's still more profitable to make most of them into jelly. unless the difference in price from base quality to iridium quality is more than 50g it's more profitable to make it into jelly, and I think the difference in price of salmonberries is like 5g or something.

I choose Botanist so I always get iridium quality truffles. They sell for 1,250g each so you can make quite a bit with a few deluxe barns full of pigs.

Good for gifts, great for inventory management. But that's about it
Processing forage is not really worth it
The real good thing is the always iridium pig truffles

Yeah I was just going to chime in with the latter here.

Having your forageables only take up one stack instead of multiple with each rarity is awesome. On top of that, the villagers that like these as gifts like it more!

so villagers like some of the easiest gifts one could possibly obtain which are just laying on the ground?

I mean... just pick up another... and if you care about it that much why haven't you already maxed the friendship with items that are literally free and on the ground before you max foraging?

What a stupid comment.

Because that's nothing FORCING me to do anything the way YOU want it. I love giving iridium quality forage to people who like it, specially Sandy that I always forget to gift, and even Krobus.

I unlocked level 10 forage on winter year 1, so there are a lot of friendship points yet to be achieved

How can someone be so obnoxious in a forage thread? Jesus Christ.

You use them just like any other forage item: you either eat it for energy, or sell it for money. Both the sell cost and energy/health recovered scales with quality, so there is no advantage over doing one of the other.

Definitely don't make wine out of the things you forage though, it's a waste of kegs. You're spending 7 days to triple the value of an item that is already not worth much at all. You're better off putting your most expensive vegetables and fruit in those, stuff like pumpkins, rhubarb, melons or, the king of wine and profits: Starfruit.
