Skill Books?

I've gotten quite a few skill books recently where I "learned a new power". Is there a way to see exactly what power each one boosted and by how much and/or what the effects are? I've looked under the 'special' tab but that only shows what their name is, but no details at all.

OK, that was helpful,. Thank you. But what if you've already maxed out everything prior? Do they add 'extra'?

If you've already gained the special power from a book, reading it again will grant skill XP (Edit: with the exceptions of the Price Catalogue, Animal Catalogue, and Queen of Sauce Cookbook). If all of your skills are level 10 then you'll instead be granted mastery points. If you also have mastery level 5, then reading the book does nothing.
