I used the Magic Quiver before I found an Ice Rod. The quiver was very useful in clearing the Volcano Dungeon, because it kept the fire sprites away. Its damage isn't very high, though, so It's not as fast at killing as freezing the enemies with Ice Rod and whacking them with a strong weapon.
The Magic Quiver might actually work well with a slingshot. You could go fully ranged. Haven't tried it, but it's a possibility.
The quiver can be useful for finding hidden enemies such as the rock crab, and sometimes I DONT want to freeze enemies in place (such as grouping up mummies for quick slingshot disposal)
If you're fighting a serpent, for example, you may have to wait for it to charge at you three times before you can deal enough damage to kill it. Maybe a quiver can hit it once or twice and reduce that to two, but the ice rod will allow you to kill it in a single charge.
Frozen enemies are definitely not invincible.
Compare to the quiver, it does perform better in harder environment imo.
In that case, freeze them!
All these years, I just thought it was part of the game, lol!
