Is Stardew Valley scary?
I remember playing a farming game (on the Ninentdo 3DS?) before Stardew Valley came out where the character fell asleep at a certain point in the night no matter what they were doing. That concept of falling asleep involuntarily, the pixel graphics, the eeriness of the night, and the eerie repetitiveness of the days and dialogue really turned me off from playing it, and I felt as if there was something darker going on. From what I've seen of Stardew Valley, it too has a lot of similar things and can seem eerie at certain points in the game especially with music off.

Does anyone think Stardew Valley is scary or has horror elements? Or maybe you get some weird sense of apprehension from it? Maybe I just have a wild imagination!

Eh, it has its moments where it can get a little creepy every once in a while, but I don't really think this game is "scary" by any means. The scariest this game really gets (at least, for me) is when you're in the mines or skull cavern and surrounded by powerful monsters, especially if you've got a lot of really good items on hand and/or you start running out of food to heal yourself. :dchungry:

the scariest part is when you use a stair in the mayor's bedroom and go into his cellar and find his lucky underwear. You will get chased by something SCARY that actually does a decent amount of damage.

for real though, stardew takes a lot of inspiration from Harvest Moon (I'm guessing that's what you are referencing) so if that was scary to you then Stardew probs is too. A lot of people think it's more stressful than scary though.
Depend on how old and shyness you are. But mostly it suit for 6 years old kid.

It's not in the least except for possibly when you're in the mines or the volcano on Ginger Island . I've never made it past level 5 of the volcano.

There are some midly creepy things that can happen after you sacrifice your children to the dark shrine in attempt to get rid of them other than that , meh the game is chill and spook-less
I totally understand you, and I can tell you Stardew Valley is one of the scariest experiences I had in video games.
The cute aesthetic clearly hides something way darker. I mean, there's that permanent eerie feeling of living a happy simple life, just growing vegetables/fruits, having non-toxic relationships with people around, being able to project yourself in future, not being constantly flooded by bad news, in a nutshell : being happy.
Well, I think happiness is a very creepy concept and that scares me a lot, that's why I would say this game is indeed very scary.

you do fall asleep involuntarily at 2 am in this game.

you also involuntary fall unconscious, but not dead, when your health reaches zero.

night is fairly dark initially but you can get light sources.

Is it just nighttime in general that you find eerie, or was there something else about the nights in that game you're referencing?

This does have pixel graphics, the player does involuntarily end the day at 2am, there is repeating dialogue (I'm not sure that I've ever heard of a game that doesn't have any repeating dialogue)... and there is nighttime.

As for something darker going on: if the above to you seems "eerie" then I think you will also feel that something darker is going on when you see the wizard cutscenes and some other things. Personally, I'm not into dark goings-on or horror and do not feel that Stardew Valley contains any of those elements. I suspect that you will though (as I suspect my brother and his family would). Maybe this game isn't a good fit for you.

p.s. Best advice: anytime you feel a "weird sense of apprehension." follow your gut.

Just go to bed before 2am and your farmer won't fall asleep. The game starts to remind you once the clock strikes midnight.

Nights can be pretty dark depending on your display and its settings. You can craft campfire, candles and lanterns, though to illuminate darker areas.

Is this a joke?

Has horror elements but I don't think what you described is scary.

I will tell you what they are, but only if you ask for it. Do notice that most horror elements are not even scary, just mysterious.
