I was there every single sunny day on time till day 23 of the summer and it never bite even once. Wasting my deluxe baits and cork bobbers.

Trout Derby
Each Rainbow Trout catch has a 33% chance to give the player a Golden Tag. This chance is multiplied by the number of Rainbow Trout caught, so it increases to 66% if 2 Rainbow Trout are caught at once and to 99% if 3 are caught at once. Only 1 Golden Tag can be caught per catch even if the player caught multiple Rainbow Trout at once.

Was there from 7am till energy deplete around 11pm. Out of 41 only 9 were Rainbow Trout and I didn't even get my golden tag till the 6th and the 8th. Only 2 tags from the entire day. Again, wasting my baits and cork bobbers. Most importantly wasted the whole day.

I dont "get" fishing in general. If the fish barely bobs i can usually keep up; but thats only like 1 in 5 bites where it barely moves for me.... the other times the fish immediately jumps to the top and i furiously click to get the range up there only for the fish to drop to the bottom again and ive already failed, no time to adjust for the fish going nuts.

No idea what im supposed to do? not click so fast in those situations? deal with the rng crisis? no idea. got a mod just to cheat at fishing that comes with like 100 other cheats that are sometimes all too tempting but as far as i can tell i am not fishing incorrectly im just uber bad at it and can't get anything for the community or event without cheating, feels icky.

No you weren't, otherwise you would've gotten a bite in this many days. You are either confusing the hours or massively exaggerating how much you actually fished. Also use dressed spinner for increased bite rate, not cork bobbers.

Even I got 6 tags without using anything extra so you're doing something wrong clearly. Also you're supposed to use fish specific bait for those events. You can easily get a dozen tags in a single day with just rainbow trout bait. And, again, why are you using cork bobbers, use dressed spinner for increased bite rate if you want more fish.

Don't blame the game when you're doing things wrong.

You're not supposed to click, you're supposed to hold the button to move it faster...

And for the really difficult fish that constantly dart all around you need either to get lucky, or stack all the odds in your favor to increase your chances. You can catch even the hardest fish in the game almost every single time if you are good at the minigame and come fully prepared, impossible patterns are very rare and only happen with the couple hardest fish in the game.

If you sold all the fish you caught that day for a few thousand gold I would hardly call the day a waste. Sure, you missed out on a few random prizes. So what? There's always next year!

As for fishing, it takes practice. Most of the time you can tell what kind of fish you are catching just by its behavior, and will learn to respond accordingly. Be sure to use food buffs as well (like dish of the sea) to make your green bar as large as possible.

I used to hate the fishing game too, but now it is one of my favorite parts of the game. Good luck, and have fun!

I fished the trout derby from 7 am to 7 pm using rainbow trout bait, caught 40 fish and received 13 tags. The fish were 33 rainbow, 4 pike, 1 dorado, 1 chub, 1 bream - and no trash. A very successful day.

Either you are incredibly unlucky or you are doing it wrong.

i would think challenge bait plus sonar would keep you from reeling in anything else?

Fishing sucks at the beginning, I don't like it either, but with time and experience it becomes way easier.

You're supposed to use the fish bait maker at the new fishing events (and fishing in general). It helps tremendously

Bait is free. You get Deluxe Bait every day by building a bait maker. I have THREE so I get about 15 deluxe bait daily. I usually have over 500 on my fishing pole.

As for how hard fishing is, this is solved by using Trap tackles. It makes fish escape slower when they're not on the bar. This is pretty much essential for the fast moving darty fish. Even though they are off the bar, they won't reduce your progress much and you will be able to catch up to them and gain progress slowly toward catching them.

Thankfully fishing is the easiest skill to max out, and since it's a great money maker early in the game you naturally want to do a lot of it anyway. You can easily max it out by the end of first summer if you just fish a few of hours every other day. Or even by the end of first spring if you really devote your time to it.

Ya, theoretically would've gotten a bite in this many days. But the fact remains, it did not. That is why this rant post exist. Are you saying I'm blind cant tell the time of the day and was fishing at 12 midnight till 4 in the morning despite the fact that I pasted the timing at the top? Are you saying I should record every day that I played so that I can proof it? Sure I could have used dressed spinner.

Then you tell me what is wrong other than the dressed spinner. Already pasted whatever info there. Tell me why you gotten 6 tags without any extra stuff while I have baits and cork bobbers only got 2.

Yup, my day 2 was better after going back to the farm throwing all 9 into the fish bait maker.

you really want to use targeted bait at the trout derby.

also chests have a chance to contain tickets.

I just bring like 20-40 rainbow trout bait and a dressed spinner if I have the rod unlocked. also maybe a trout soup or something to boost fishing level.

The better your fishing rod is and higher your fishing skill is the easier the erratic fish are to catch. There are also bobbers that help against erratic jumpy bois too.
