Only one or two cosmetic items, all the rest can be dropped/crafted elsewhere

I think it's the only place you can get the bucket hat. Make some trout bait and it will go much faster.

I think I went in with around 50 or so. I also had fishing level 10, an iridium rod, and the dressed spinner. Not every trout caught will give you the prize tickets you need, so plan to be there a while. I also don't believe they carry over to the next day, so you have to start again, but it's only something like 8 the first day and 10 the second (I think).

Trout Derby has single event reward item pool, from which it pulls items from. Bucket Hat and Mounted Trout being the most desired rewards from the mini festival. If you fail to catch enough tags to get your rewards this year, the NPC remembers how many you turned in and will continue from that point on wards.

They can also be traded between players.

"Golden Tags carry over from day to day and can be saved for subsequent years."

SquidFest on other hand has two different reward pools, for first and second day.

Good to know, thanks!

Keep in mind that Trout Derby is also somewhat RNG depends on how much fish you catch in one bait.

I recommend going for wild bait or challenge bait

I think the trout derby is just kind of a way to nudge new players to do a little fishing in year 1 AND it can be done easily with the training rod, so for those of us who loathe the first few levels of fishing, it's an easy way get past that quicker.

oh the trout derby is doing my head in, I had no time to fish first day cos harvest&planting&watering, second day I was given worst luck fortune and naturally Willy was not at the shop when I tried to see if he had any trout bait. So I've caught 6 golden and 3 silver trouts so far and not a single tag :lunar2019crylaughingpig: First year I barely knew how to fish with no baits and got half the tags both days, almost every fish gave one. Based on this you might consider lucky food to go with

Actually I think luck won't play any factors well.

The golden tag is being affected by catching number of fishes from 1 to 3, with each fish granting 33%, so 3 fishes are 99 percentage in one bait.

Yeah, I'd say the Trout Derby is totally optional. If you hate fishing, or are too busy, just skip it.

Say what you will, but it took me catching 12 trouts to get my first tag, on a day I just happened to be given worst possible luck fortune. Coincidence? Maybe, maybe not. In either case I need lucky food in game or out of game :cozyjunimogreen: I decided to side with Joja Mart this playthrough since I never have before and lacked the achievement, so junimos seem to be exceptionally offended with me, lol

I ahve everzthing maxed and still getting just few tokens for half+ day fishing.. it is maybe 1 of 4 catched of gold and irridium quality trouts(seems if the treasure chest at same time the chance is 100%) but if you check the rewards most is quite minor and is likely not worthy extra hassle past y1

Year 1 is just not good enough for Trout Derby to be fair. People struggle a lot because of lack of skill points and equipment. At first day of Trout Derby I'm already automate my watering and just toss the watering can somewhere. Most of my time in Fall are just exploring and tapping trees as they go.

I told you. The lucky food does jack carp. Neither lucky day unless you count catching algae and trash. Golden tag is not affected by luck, it's by how many fishes in one catch using Wild Baits from Linus friendship and Challenge Baits. 1 fish is always 33%; 2 fishes in one catch have 66%; and 3 fishes mean 99%. It doesn't matter what quality it is.

Revisiting in year 2 and at that points you can farm spam the golden tags.
