Green Rain Theory
Something is afoot with this whole green rain event!

First time it happened in my game I found it fascinating, but then I started to wonder... I was thinking even though the green rain event is pretty much harmless for now(!), and only happens once a year during summer bummer... Maybe it's a warning?

I can see why it initially is seen as a blessing , but can you imagine what would happen if it was happening for a whole week, let alone a whole month or year...?! :brownchicken:

Looking at what is actually happening with the trees and such, I can't say it is a very beautifying process. The green rain gives the environment a very... Wild look. Which of course might be beautiful in some peoples eyes. But to me it feels like things are almost spinning out of control. It clearly also affects electronics, making them not work. I can see three potential sources behind the green rain:

The Witch:
It's green, just like her. So it might essentially be a spell. An evil spell! The plan is to overgrow the valley, so that people will suffocate only to then be mummified and enslaved by the witch. Making her the sole ruler of the valley. And perhaps later on, the entire world. The witch might be more ambitious than anyone ever thought.

Mr Qi:
We know he has access to some... High tech stuff. Among other things. Maybe this is some kind of experiment of his. An experiment that was perhaps created with good intentions, but that might someday spin out of control and destroy everything.

Yoba:
Personally I think the green rain is sent by Yoba - who might not be a very merciful deity for all we know. The message might be something like:

Stop messing with nature!

Or you will all end up being slowly and painfully transformed into trees and plants... That goes especially for everyone at Joja. Thing is though, anyone who is foolish enough to invoke the wrath of Yoba, will cause everyone around them to also suffer the consequenses. What do you think? Have you given this mysterious event some deeper thought? Would be interesting to hear what everyone else thinks. :staxelCow:

it's a weird event that doesn't mesh with my conceptualization of the valley very well...
It's got a very unique atmosphere for the game, but there are so many magical and supernatural things in the game that it doesn't feel out of place for me. Just look at where the witches hut is, the room in the sewers, etc. They're pretty alien environments. Is a green rain that makes everything mossy and grassy for a day really that odd in SV's world?
right, so I can't really say that it feels "wrong"... it just doesn't feel quite "right" to me personally.

maybe it'll grow on me :P

I prefer none at all, thank you. :brownchicken:

What producing hundreds and thousands of wine in the late-game does to a sane person:

Please stop drinking them lol. Sell them to people of Zuzu city, they need this mentality more. Also, Yoba can't turn me into trees because I can just skip the day by sleeping like a lazy potato in 6AM. Checkmate ConcernedApe.

Don't challenge Yoba! Lazy potato or no lazy potato, if this event starts happening all day everyday throughout the year - there will be no escaping the moist and smelly moss...

I think the simplest answer is the right one and that it's a Junimo thing. They are forest spirits, after all. What immediately comes to mind is the potion we drink from the Wizard to understand the Junimos because it fills our screen with trees. Not to mention it doesn't affect animals and such, only foliage.

Thanks a lot OP CBill, i now get even less sleep after reading your post, we have winter rains here & now i peer through the curtains to check the colour before booting up the game to check how my mates in the Valley are doing. This game has had me addicted for years now you have added terror to it, get aboard your mother ship & go home (like ET). :guppy:

Throwing my hat for real into the ring this time, I'm going to differ to the Wizard's knowledge on the subject that it's a good thing, at least for now. My interpretation is that this is nature's attempt at healing itself though from what is anyone's guess. Likely candidates are the machinations of Joja Corporation and the current war against the Gotaro Empire. The latter is a fair bit unknown because we have no in-game knowledge as to the extent of the weapons they're using (or for that matter what weapons are also being used against them) though given that we're not trying to grow crops in an irradiated wasteland, WMDs are very likely off the table. Something that big, we'd have DEFINITELY heard or seen something about it. And though he's definitely a mysterious fellow with a lot of hands in a lot of different cookie jars, I don't see Mr. Qi involved in any of this, at least not in a direct capacity. Though I will say that given his unflappable nature? If Mr. Qi were to EVER express concern or fear in regards to the Green Rain event (or anything for that matter) we're probably already screwed.

All that said, nature is chaos. It does what it wants, when it wants, and it does not care one iota what anyone else has to say about it. That's just how it is. And if things WERE to amp up in regards to Joja or the war or whatever and more healing is needed, I could see more drastic measures being taken. I don't know what could possibly be considered the Stardew Valley equivalent of the Mana Beast from Secret of Mana but I'm pretty darn certain the Infinity weapons aren't going to help us in that particular fight, oh no.

Given that Haunted Chocolatier is set in the same world as Stardew Valley, we MAY get a bit more info in regards to all this even though, based on the name, it's probably going to be dealing a bit more with paranormal elements as opposed to nature. Time will tell, I suppose.

It's just a theory... I mean, it's not like there aren't already some quite dark and disturbing things present in the game. So if anything, maybe blame the dev :P

And no I won't go home. I came to earth for a reason! :staxelCow:

Yep, blame the dev.
If you will stay at least keep your tinfoil cap on it helps with those theories creeping in. :ftmushroom:
PS: No use looking for a reason, reason left Earth a while ago.

Hohoho, sounds like you are talking from experience ;> Never said I was looking by the way - I already know the reason. Now, quit your moping or I'll share even more theories to brighten your day! :oxinablanket: Hats off, dear!

@ChrillBill after making fun of your green rain "theories", I noticed my trees slowly covering in moss. Clearing the trees didn't help, they are spreading faster now. I can't get rid of them anymore. They don't stop, they are everywhere.

They want me. Yoba has come for me. It's too late for me, save yourselves. Sacrifice your children to Yoba and turn them into doves. Only way of salvation.

The moss is indeed quite aggressive in terms of how fast it is appearing and spreading. It's probably alive, in some sense. Time to start praying for a miracle x.x

Do note that it's probably the only event in the game which causes valley-wide comunications shutdown. I've even probably borked my Queen of Sauce recipes collection because of that (Year 2 Rain happened on Sunday).
Aside of Prismatic Shards, I can't remember any other in-game things/entities/events which can interfere with modern technology negatively.

On a SEEMINGLY unrelated matter, I'm seeing metric ton of UFOs on my nightly income screen.
Never seen one in 1.5.x update despite grinding it to Year 4 or maybe more.
In v1.6.x? At least one per season at the very least.
And at least in our world these are known to interfere with our tech negatively...

That's some Saints Row IV level infiltration ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ going on. Or so it looks. :bandit:

(Farm-puter is not affected by Green Rain somehow. In a situation where even wired phones are defunct.
Smoluani tech is already protected from interference of this kind? Makes sense... makes hella lot of sense...)
