Unfortunately, galaxy and infinity weapons are the best in the game and that's already set in stone, lore-wise. Just change the appearance and voilà. That's what dyeing and the forage are for
Also, I think the consensus isn't to buff it to Galaxy Sword level, just make it not a bloody reskinned Bone Sword, it feels a bit of copy and pasted let's be honest here. And like Bob of Mage said, it gets out classed almost immediately on level 90. That just sounds like a bigger disappointment, not gonna lie? I'll clear things up since you apparently missed it, but before I said I wished it was “~Galaxy Sword level” not EXACTLY Galaxy Sword level. (That's what the tilde is for, it means “about”)Maybe level 9-10 or maybe even 11-12 because what's even more funny (not really) is that the Meowmere is lumped in with swords like the Iron Edge, Bone Sword, Forest Sword, and Claymore. It's a bit of another slap in the face because it just looks out of place?
People were expecting it to be on par with its place in Terraria and now are disappointed...
Not to say that it's wrong - we are all different, with different opinions, etc. etc. etc. ...
But from my personal view (sorry if I'm repeating myself) - it's just sort-of-meme, memento, easter egg. And so - I am quite happy with it.
After all, Junimo in Terraria isn't much help at all (if any) - and in Stardew they are a huge help on the farm. Chickens (depending on your play) are decent money-makers too - and in Terraria it's jsut a pet.
As for better or not better in comparison to other swords... Guys, there are a lot of weapons that just laughable (or worth crying over) - how about daggers, especially early daggers. You don't get good ones until very late game (unless you get lucky with early fishing treasure chests).
Or if we are talking about swords specifically - how about Insect Head? Now that it's buffed and requirements are down it is at least decent until you get something better - before it was a complete "just another dump thing". And even now - if you progress through mines fast it is still outclassed even before you can get it. Yet nobody cries over that. Or some other eradication rewards for that matter. Just a helmet for freaking dinosaurs, really?
And for special effects - SPARKLES!!!
Especially when you kill a horde of monsters at the same time.
Yes, it's not the same 1:1 as Terraria, but games are different, and programmed differently.
And it is way better than other (non-existent) effects of other weapons.
And if you forge it with Infinity sword - you still keep those sparkles. Which is a big plus in my eyes.
Now - how to convince CA to add it to Guild's stock?
