Coal is so rare
i think everyone who have ever played this game have this opinion: coal is really rare!
and it should be like this? idk.
we have lots of ways to farm coal, but my favorite way is to kill those black circles in the local mines after floor 41, but i ask myself frequently if this should be the right way to farm coal
do you guys think that they should update this and fix the really low droprate% from the stones in mines? i think it would really better for early game, as in end game everyone buys it from clint.
never seen anyone talking about this b4, but i think this really needs a fix in the future

As a side note, dangerous mines 40-70 is a good source of both hardwood and coal since mushroom guys are dust sprites' counterpart and there are many stumps and mahogany trees spawning there.

Just go to the ice layers of the cavern and farm the black dust things.

Levels 40-60 are just alive with dust sprites. Tons of them. I've never wanted for coal since 1.6
Gold Dragon 4 apr, 2024 @ 9:45
even before 1.6, I don't think I ever bought coal. I do remember buying wood, tho (I was a few short of a carpentry project).

Coal was never really RARE (uncommon tho it may have been), the real question is/was how much time and effort do you put in looking? Since 1.6 dropped, I've been all but rolling in coal......

i dont think its as hard anymore now thankfully with the latest update, the new powers and smelters make it very manageable

Well, in the past (before the 1.6) I actually had to go farm coal from time to time by killing those "dust" guys (or whatever) in the mine.

But I found that useful since killing them got me closer to get that sweet burglar ring.

I didn't even know that it could be bought XD

There are also coal 'chests' in the mines you can interact with that usually have a couple of pieces in them.
ChrillBill 4 apr, 2024 @ 10:55
And here I thought coal is actually even more easy to gather now... ô.ô

I am approaching a full 999 stack of coal in my chest at home, and it's gotten to the point the only reason I care about coal, is to collect a few pieces so I can make bombs while exploring mines/skull caves, and otherwise I don't care about coal drops.

Once you unlock the Quarry, you have access to it, and the Quarry Mine, both of which have coal nodes that drop 3-4 coal when mined (this is new to 1.6).

Once you unlock Mining Mastery, you can make the Dwarf King Statue, which allows you to select More Coal as one of the daily buffs. This comes up as a choice way too often (because you don't need more stinking coal if you've got 900+ already) which is also new to 1.6.

Coal Nodes also spawn in the Volcano Dungeon.

And others have said, Dust Sprites drop them. You're gonna be killing 500 of them for the ring that you get from their Slayer achievement anyhow, and in the process you should get several hundred coal.

Coal is not rare, whatsoever.

Why would you farm coal if you can turn 10x Wood into 1x Coal? Not rare at all.

I agree with your opinion in general (coal is not rare) but wood is extremely useful, specially beyond middle of the game, when you need a lot to make those kegs. Wasting 10 to get 1 coal is pretty terrible.

But I agree that having the posibility to do it really reduces the pressure to get more coal.
CringePotato 5 apr, 2024 @ 1:36
Ever since 1.6 I haven't been having any issues with coal, I have tons of the stuff
Maya-Neko 5 apr, 2024 @ 4:27
It's quite easy to get. Just repeat the mines floors 50-59 constantly and you'll have more than you need and i personally want the Burglar's Ring asap anyway.

As for the lategame, where i start to need it in big amounts, i simply buy it, but not so much because they're rare, but rather because i've so much money, that i can afford to be lazy in some areas.

Farming trees to turn them into coal is way more time consuming than just farming coal directly, especially once you've the burglar's ring. You need like 2 trees per 3 coal and that's not just time consuming (especially when you've planted them far away and you needing to put coal in and wait for it), but also a waste wood that could've been used for other stuff, as it's one of the most needed ressource in the game.

The only time i make coal this way is, if i want to hand in a tool and need like only 1 or 2 more bars, while not having any coal
