Ice Rod is Absolutely Overpowered AF.
So I got my little mitts on one of these bad boys recently, and wow.

Between that and the Slime Charmer ring, Combat is basically effortless now. Almost. Every now and then an enemy can get a couple cheap shots on me, but for the most part, doing entire floors and never getting hit at all is easy.

It makes some enemies like ghosts and fire spirits trivial, once they're frozen, they can't be knocked back and by the time they unfreeze, they're dead and that's without the Infinity Sword upgrade. It also makes enemies with projectiles like Pepper Rexes and mages far less annoying too. They can't throw stuff if they are frozen in place, lol.

Also did Dangerous Mines 1-20 and the only thing that posed any kind of threat to me were the squids that started appearing because I'm not used to their strange movement patterns yet, but they were only doing like 8-12 damage to me, thanks to my +3 defense sword, mermaid boots and that +5 defense ring.

Oh, and Vampiric Sword helps too. Half the damage they did was healed back by the time I got to floor 20. Had to quit because of RL weather, blaaaah.

I just got the Ice Rod about an hour ago. Haven't used it yet but according to the stats it doesn't shot nearly as fast as the (upgraded) Magic Quiver. I really like the quiver! And I opted for the Bug Killer enchantment on my Infinity Blade.

The Ice Rod freezes enemies in place for a few seconds. This is INSANELY useful on some enemies, especially enemies that have high knockback, such as ghosts, serpents, etc. If you freeze an enemy in place, and strike it... it WON'T get knocked back, which means you can swing again and again, and kill pretty much anything before it thaws.

It also has infinite "punch through" meaning one projectile will freeze an infinite number of enemies in its path. So, you could kill a mother slime, it breaks up into 5 slimes and your ice rod shoots an ice ball and freezes all 5 slimes which you then kill before they thaw. Easy peasy. It basically turns everything into an absolute joke.

Pepper Rexes? Just freeze em, run in and kill them before they have a chance to breathe fire again.

Bats? They just wait for their death once they get frozen.

Serpents? Pfft. I don't fear no serpents anymore.

It even freezes the fire elementals in the volcano!

I am currently preferring the parrot. got a perfect one and the amount of gold is small sure ( 250-1000g per enemy ) but when you get into skull cavern and get those huge monster spawns boy does the gold rake in. Currently getting between 50k-100k gold a day in just parrot gold.

I'm playing with 25% margin and recently found a Lv4 parrot, he is now my bestie and main income. Pirate build YarRrr. (or maybe tax evasion build because the gold coin aren't affected by the margin penalty. Makes me wonder if I should wear the pirate hat or top hat)

that sounds nice. i always hate knockback on weapons in games because it stops you from being able to combo.. knockback in stardew valley is especially noticeable

I wanted to like the quiver, but the knockback on it made killing anything an exercise in frustration until it was pinned against something.

I just stand still for a few moments until it does it's job - unless I want to enter the fray at that point. Never needed to wait until an enemy was pinned against something.

Same here, I was just playing with 50% nargin and grinding last few mils for Gold Clock the parrot was great help / getting 50k+/day out of it. THough i was not able identify if combination with other items like burglar ring has effect.

I agree. Everything becomes so much easier, it even locates hidden enemies or traps. It also bypasses every enemy.

ya, I've been playing 50%; the parrot giving up to like 1k when starfruit wine only sells for like 1.5k is really good IMO.

other than that I like the healing fairy. it says it only heals you while in combat, but what's considered "in combat" is kinda broad; breaking barrels is considered "in combat" for example.

The ice rod does keep freezing my slimes when I clear out the slime hutch. The poor thing get frozen but they seem to recover.

Your rods and quivers are all good and all but fairy is GOAT and will make you an unkillable lich

They both do basically the same thing, the fairy keeps healing you, the ice rod makes it so you almost never get hit in the first place.

The rod has an added benefit of helping you kill some enemies faster by removing knockback.

does the quiver just kill all your slimes if you have a slime hutch?

No, the quiver doesn't attack them but the ice rod does. I used to have the quiver equipped until I found the ice rod, now my poor slimes live in fear of my visits.
