Clint left and I can't get my tool :(

Right now on my save it's friday, and on wednesday I gave clint my watering can so he could upgrade it because I knew it would rain on thursday, but I just learned clint leaves his shop on fridays now that I've restored the community center. I looked online and someone said pressing A by the counter works, but I tried right-clicking the counter and connecting a controller to try and get it, but nothing happens. Is there any way to get my tool or do I have to wait until tomorrow and not water my plants?

Update: I found a mod that automatically gives me my tools once they're upgraded, problem solved

pressing A on the counter only works, if they're over at ginger island, as you can't plan around them randomly going over there.
