But yeah, a no-buying run could be fun.
Only boycot Pierre seems to easy to be called a challenge now tough.
How about only buy for gold from the traveling merchant (very overpriced) and buy from traders that exchange for goods like desert trader and the one on Ginger island. And the raccoon in 1.6 ofc.
Should be possible to pay gold for services so Robin can build you stuff and maybe a pair of animals from each?
I gess bag upgrades and recipes need to be bought aswell.
No wood/stone/ore buying tough!
You could combine it with only selling processed goods or maybe only sell gold/iridium and rest have to be processed
Oh! I think we miscommunicated. "Boycott" means to avoid, and not buy anything from Pierre. I think you were reading it as ONLY buy stuff from Pierre and not anyone else. Which ... idk but maybe that'd be another interesting challenge to try? Your ideas about how it would affect using Robin and the Traders etc. sound interesting, though brutal.
Wound't that mean the only challenge is low bagspace? Cos everything else can be bought at Joja's.
Altough annoying but not really challenging with chests placed all over the place?
As for fishing..... what if you can only sell processed fish?
The new smoked fish for the more expensif ones and fish recipes from cooking for cheap fish.
Chicken/mayonaise imperium is probebly done by alot of people atm.
Uhm, can't really see more challenging stuff that is entwined with the new stuff in 1.6....
I thought of a challenge idea the other day but I forgot now. If I remember I'll post it here.
I saw the opposite suggested. With the new farm do a animals only run and no farming. You might need to go joja to do that.
Restricting the use of drinks is optional.
OMG OOF! That sounds incredibly difficult. I don't know if I'd be willing to give up eating. Eating is one of the FUN things. But I can see it would be a good challenge category anyway.
Low inventory space is one feature usually, of the boycott pierre challenge. I do buy the backpacks, because my belief is that Caroline sells the backpacks, since they are not bought from Pierre's register. But in boycotting Pierre I also meant but forgot to say boycotting Joja as well. Most people take boycotting Joja as given since they see Joja as the devil. But even so, there are a few things that Pierre sells which Joja does not, like fruit trees and some recipes and condiments.
But yes, the main point would be to only plant wild seeds, mixed seeds, seeds you get from the travelling cart, or seeds you create from a seed maker. That sort of thing.
I haven't tried making a fish smoker yet. I'd probably want to get a riverland farm for that challenge, to have one at the start.
I have done "don't sell anything unprocessed" before, but fish and mushrooms didn't count since they couldn't be processed before. But the dehydrator and the smoker could change that.
Yes! That was the first thing I thought too. Although figuring out how to deal with losing cash every night was a cool part of the challenge at the time. But cheating in tents isn't something I'm prepared to do, so idk how to get them yet, aside from winning one at a festival. And just one isn't really worth so much.
I've never tried no crops at all. I've done no SELLING crops, but idk how it would be to never get to use or gift crops. Not selling them is actually fun, because you get to explore other ways to make money. But not even being allowed to grow them might be sad, because few things are as nice for gifts and cooked dishes.
'cept for CC requirements of course
My strategy is to fish like crazy, and ignore almost everything else to quickly earn the $140k it takes for the membership and bundles, plus pay for certain extras like a backpack, fishing rod, bait, etc. I know I've fished up as much as $172k in first spring before, so this should be doable. The difference is, this time I'm intending for the save to continue past that one season, so I'm paying some attention to certain details which might slow me down.
Stuff I'm doing besides fishing includes:
Caring for chickens (I'm on Meadowland farm and have 4 chickens to tend);
Clearing debris and green grass to let blue grass grow;
Buying or fishing up enough ore to make mayo machines and recycling machine;
Trying to befriend Caroline;
Starting a tree farm/tapper area.
I'm deliberately NOT planting anything, mining at all, or foraging the map. I fished up an ancient seed, so I planted and am watering that ONE plant, but that's all. I also pet and water the dog daily.
I'm doing all of this BEFORE opening my game to multiplayer because time stops while fishing in solo, but not during multiplayer games. The only way to reach my goal quickly is to do it solo. Then anyone who joins will have the experience of starting a fresh game in summer instead of in spring, with all the bonuses opened up like greenhouse, bus, minecarts etc. and the farm being cleared, but nothing at all planted and no mine elevators opened up. I won't have any money left over after I buy the bundles, but I will have an upgraded rod and be level 10 fishing.
I'm interested to see what people will make of this opportunity. It's a huge leapfrog ahead in progress, but still very early game with everything left to do! It's kind of like playing with a weird sort of mod on, I guess. (But it fits within my "no-mods" style.)
Right now it is Spring 14 and I have just hit level 10 fishing. I sold all the fish I've been saving (because I wanted the 50% cash bonus for being level 10) and bought the Joja membership. I have $40k left over, and will start buying bundles daily as cash allows. I have just a first upgrade of backpack and fishing rod, so I'm not going to be vastly overpowered compared to other players.
I'm so excited to see how this will turn out!
I also had in mind a restaurant, where you can only sell cooked food. Not sure how i'll proceed with that one, but start is going to be rough.
This sounds nice. You could start with selling "Field Snacks" and "Bug Steak" early on.
