Mods?
OK, so I played this game a couple years ago and finally quit after not being able (after repeated tries) to get to the top floor of the island mountain to get to the forge. I'm old (75) and have no idea how Smapi works with Steam to get mods that make the world look more medieval and ease stuff like the final 5 or 7 levels to get to that damn forge on my next playthrough.... and is there actually such a mod as to make that particular 'adventure' easier? Anyone willing to talk me though it as if I'm 6 year old?. I only use a pc if that makes any difference. I've never used mods before...

is it issues on the amount of time you have until you have to go back home or?

You can download and install SMAPI from their website smapi.io. Just run the .bat file and the text prompts will guide you through. You'll end up with a location you have to copypaste in steam, there's a tutorial for that on the SMAPI website. From that point on you can just launch Stardew Valley through Steam as normal but you'll play with SMAPI.

Other mods are most commonly found on Nexusmods. You can make a free account on the website to browse and download files. You said you had an interest in cosmetic mods that make the world more medieval, there is plenty of those to be found. Installing mods is just downloading and unzipping the file and copying the file to the mod folder (found under program files>steam>steamapps>common>stardew valley> mods assuming you're on windows). Some mods have other mods, usually called frameworks, as requirements. This will be listed on Nexusmods. One such mod you'll need for cosmetic mods is Content Patcher.

Also to make the Volcano Mines easier I'd recommend Triple Shot Expresso for Speed and Pumpkin Soup for a mining buff, as well as some good shoes and a weapon.

Ditto the above. There are some mods which are completely busted for you like "Wear More Rings" and "More enchantments". Though I really recommend those mods as last resorts because they tend to make the choice less meaningful.

Me? Personally for roleplay.

Addition: the mod for combat that you are looking for is probably Combat Made Easy Suite, it has a bunch of options that are explained excellently on the mod page on Nexusmods. You can mix and match what kind of leeway you want to give yourself in which areas.

If you want easier combat, I use CJB Cheats Menu. It has a "one hit kill" option for the monsters.

Ummmm..... needing a mod for another mod to work? Nope! Too complicated for me (like I said, I'm 75...) but your advice on triple shot expresso and pumpkin soup is worthwhiie... I'll try that, eventually.

That's totally fair. If you ever change your mind though, I or someone else in the community would probably be more than happy to talk you through installing the mods you might want and need.
