Other mods are most commonly found on Nexusmods. You can make a free account on the website to browse and download files. You said you had an interest in cosmetic mods that make the world more medieval, there is plenty of those to be found. Installing mods is just downloading and unzipping the file and copying the file to the mod folder (found under program files>steam>steamapps>common>stardew valley> mods assuming you're on windows). Some mods have other mods, usually called frameworks, as requirements. This will be listed on Nexusmods. One such mod you'll need for cosmetic mods is Content Patcher.
Also to make the Volcano Mines easier I'd recommend Triple Shot Expresso for Speed and Pumpkin Soup for a mining buff, as well as some good shoes and a weapon.
Me? Personally for roleplay.
Ummmm..... needing a mod for another mod to work? Nope! Too complicated for me (like I said, I'm 75...) but your advice on triple shot expresso and pumpkin soup is worthwhiie... I'll try that, eventually.
That's totally fair. If you ever change your mind though, I or someone else in the community would probably be more than happy to talk you through installing the mods you might want and need.
Thank you ever so much!
