Wood, Stone, Seeds, Speed-Gro... There are plenty of items that you might want to bulk buy.
When you are at a point in the game where you buy stacks of hay, money is probably not an issue anymore. When you fill your entire farm with Crops, Sheds and Kegs, you just can't have grass anywhere anymore and so you just buy stuff.
And why wouldn't you when your wine empire makes 30 million+ per year?
