Trees next to each other won't grow?
I was told that I could bypass trees growing adjacent to each other by using tree fertilizer... But a row of my trees didn't grow. Did they fix that in the new update, or..?

There has to be one tile between trees for them to fully grow. That's how it has always been. There is nothing to fix.
there is a mod that lets you plant trees next to each other, otherwise you have to have the 8 spaces around each tree empty, so you need to have 2 spaces between trees.

Two empty tiles are just needed for fruit trees. But for normal trees just one empty tile between trees is enough.
FWIW - this only affects trees that you plant.

The ones that "naturally appear"... those will grow wherever they land.

If you want a row of trees, you need to space them out and keep the area around them clear.

Once these are fully grown, you clean up everything *except* the spaces between them.
There's a lot of misinformation here, please verify your information before you give advice:

1. Normal trees planted next to each other will absolutely grow, but only one of them will reach maturity as a tree cannot fully grow if there is another fully grown tree in any tiles next to it (that includes diagonals too). In other words: they will both reach the final growth stage, but only one will turn into a fully fledged tree due to this limitation. Which means you can technically plant tree saplings right next to each other and have them all grow into mature trees, provided you consequently cut down all the mature trees that pop up and prevent the other saplings from fully growing. This is actually a great way to grow trees for extra wood in a space-efficient manner, you can fit up to four times as many trees in the same area by doing this. Again, provided you cut them down as soon as they mature. I did this last save for the mahogany trees and I was swimming in hardwood.

This also means that anything that isn't a mature tree will not prevent it's growth, so you can surround it with buildings, roads, plan them next to walls or water, etc. The tree will ONLY not mature if there is a mature tree in the adjacent 8 fields. You can surround a sapling with road tiles as soon as you plant it and it will not stop the tree from reaching maturity.

2. Fruit Trees will not let you plan them incorrectly, so if you can plant them, they will grow just fine. The game will let you know in the morning if there is anything preventing a fruit tree from growing (ex: a wild seed fell next to it overnight).

can you link or provide the mod's name?
Ya in my experience what the whole grows next to each other means in normal trees, is that unlike fruit trees -that can't be even be placed if you don't leave a square worth all around them- you can place them next to each other, but what ends up happening is like just 1 matures and you need to cut it off then another one or two pop and so on.

I personally just plant a tree or two where I give them enough space away and around them to spread their own "seeds" on their own, so I don't to have manage them as much...probably not space effecient...but also this whole tiny trees around one or two mature tree looks ugly lol.
