Am I the only one who uses SMAPI?
So, I started playing again today and first thing i did was give myself 99 pink cakes so I have infinite amount of energy and gifts. When I run out I rinse and repeat, and sell whatever else that needs to be sold.

It depends on who you ask and what you uses SMAPI and mods for.

What you're doing is quite obviously cheating, not sure why you'd even have to ask that.

It's a singleplayer game though, so cheat however much you want.

"Is it cheating to cheat in 99 cakes for myself so I have infinite health and energy? Or selling the free cakes for a profit?"

Ik there have already been replies for this, but its not considered cheating if thats how you want to play! Everyone plays differently, so if its how you like/want to play, it isn't considered cheating :)

So if I really, really want to play an online shooter by using wallhacks because that's how I like/want to play, then I'm not actually cheating?

I think you might want to rethink that definition.

OP: first thing i did was give myself 99 pink cakes so I have infinite amount of energy and gifts

OP: is this considered cheating?

:awkward:

But you're comparing an "online shooter", which I'd assume you'd be competing in a "PvP" sort of environment to climb ladders and whatnot for an end reward, to a game that's meant for single player with no "public servers" available to the game. I honestly think that cheating in terms of gaming is meant for fairness in play when it comes to playing with the open public. Not very so when it comes to indie / single player.

I think it all comes down to your definition of what cheating really means to you in specific means. SDV doesn't come with Anti Cheat. At the end of the day, there's no advantage for you to have this or that, so you do you. :espresso:

Sure, in the end things always boil down to definitions.

I would argue that the definition you're using is rather... meaningless though, since you're just moving things backwards a layer. If "gaining an advantage by giving yourself free stuff in a singleplayer game" does not fall under the umbrella of cheating by your definition, then we... well, essentially need to make up a new word to describe the idea of "gaining an advantage by giving yourself free stuff in a singleplayer game".

So then the answer would be: "It's not cheating, it's <the new Word that describes "cheating, but in a singleplayer game">, since you're playing a single player game". In the end you'd still be saying the same thing, just in a much more complex way that needs us to invent new words - that "Yes, it's cheating, but that's okay since it's a single player game."

Plus, by doing this you're essentially avoiding OPs question, since OP clearly uses a definition that allows for the concept of cheating in a singleplayer game - otherwise he wouldn't have asked the question to begin with.

I didn't say it was cheating under my definition. I simply pointed out that you were comparing two different games because one is playing with the open public by getting a notable reward when the game ends with a game where a player can take as many advantage, yet they don't get a notable reward, such as "championship, tiers, ladders, etc.". If that's the case, then please I dare say, do correct where in Stardew Valley gives us a list of the number one "farm" without the use of modding? Is there a website where I can check this information?

My intentions weren't to answer OP's question, since the question and varying answers is opinionated. I'm going to stop here as I have no interest to argue over what cheating defines to.

imagine flexing that you cheat LOL

I'm with Ryika. It is cheating, but who cares because it's single player. The most important thing is to have fun, so if SMAPI lets you skip the things you don't like and focus on the things you do like, two thumbs up. Before the internet, single player games often shipped with built-in cheat codes. It's a gaming tradition that's been around a long time.
