Controls on Steam Deck stopped working

Hello, I’ve seen a couple other posts/discussion threads about this or similar issues, but none of the answers seemed to have worked for me so far.

Basically, I was playing a couple days ago & I put my steam deck into sleep mode with the game on, something I’ve done before without issue, & I came back to it an hour or so later, The game would not respond to the controls. I have tried restarting my Steam Deck & un/re-installing Stardew Valley, to no avail.

I was using the Steam recommended settings for Stardew Valley, which uses the joystick for the game pad controls. After switching control layouts, it seems like, of the premade templates, the ones involving the game pads do not work. I have tried; booting up the game with controls that work & switching back to the recommended, going into developer mode & clearing the saved control set, resetting the control settings (both for the game and for the Steam Deck overall), and editing layouts / looking for saved layouts others have made for the game that match what I was using before, all to no avail 🤷.

I have seen a single comment mentioning going into the settings and forcing game pad mode on, but I haven’t been able to find anything in the settings like a “game pad mode.” The only other thing I haven’t tried is deleting the protons, because I have no idea what that means 😅 (I know how to do it, I just don’t know what that would do or if it would mess anything up)

If anyone could help me restore the game pad related control layout’s functionality, that would be much appreciated 🙏

Finally fixed it.

For some reason game pad mode in game options was set to "disabled". I set it to "force on" and that fixed problem for me.

To open options you need to start new game or open saved it's can be done with touch screen. To open options in game you need press steam+right arrow, then using touch screen change that game pad mode.

Having the same issue even though the game pad mode is already set to Auto-Detect nothing is still registering.

I am having the same problems with this game alone. I bought stardew valley after the 1.6 update. Right off the bat the Xbox controller doesn't work no matter how much I tried changing the settings as suggested doing my own research online. It's frustrating because all my other games have no problems when using the Xbox controller. What's even more annoying is at first when not docked the steam deck controller used to work now it doesn't at all. I have asked for a refund for this game but never gotten a response from steam.
