I know it's found on the prehistoric floors of Skull cavern, but on/after what floors are they usually found, and how do I identify the floors? Are they colored differently?

You will know immediately when seeing a prehistoric floor. They have rng spawns like any other special floor. You could check stardew predictor with your save file and find out.

I don't have that app or any mods. But, I finally found one around floor 85 or thereabouts.

You dont need to download stardew predictor. Just google stardew valley predictor and its the first search result. They also have stardew checkup to scan your game completion (uncaught fish, unsold crop, museum etc.).

they also spawn on non-prehistoric floors, just not in enough quanitities to get the quest done.

as with all things I would recommend you take jade to the desert trader on sundays and bring in a huge pile of staircases..

I have 95 staircases left after yesterdays trek (and unfortunately I used around 40 extra that I didn't need in search of a 2nd prehistoric floor yesterday. Oh well. I have 2 Crystalariums cranking out jade (have 8 pieces so far) and plan to add another 2 crystalariums today. After that I'll still have enough stone left to make another 18 stairs.

my last monster slayer goal is to kill pepper rexs and i noticed that the prehistoric floors are pretty random. that's why I usually don't jump in holes and go thru ladders or staircases to have a higher chance to get a prehisotric floor. there are usually 6 or 7 in a floor but in normal floors there's 2 max i'd say

I already had 11 from various trips to the cavern about a year ago that were apparently just wandering on normal floors. Haven't seen any there since the update (and been there a lot lately doing the mummies quest), but yesterday was the first time I ever saw a prehistoric floor and I got 10 Rexes - 21/50

I found that prehistoric floors stay the same floor for the entire day. I was able to get all the Rexes needed for the achievement by going back to the same floor multiple times on the same day.

I got them all within a couple days.
