Monster Musk / Prismatic Jelly - wtf

Yesterday I finally accepted the quest to get the Wizard some prismatic jelly so I can finally get the monster musk recipe. I followed some forum advice and spammed floor 5 of the mines. The first day nothing (in fact there were only 1 or 2 slimes at a time). The 2nd day I got one on my 2nd trip down. Yay.
I took it to the Wazard's tower and gave it to him as a gift. He simply said "thanks, now get out of here!" NO payment. No recipe. Nothing! WTF?
So I quit the game and will start the day over after I get some advice.

He sends a recipe in the mail, so you'll get it the following morning.

The no payment sounds odd, though.

Check in your quest menu after you give him the jelly. That should confirm if you truly completed the quest, or if there is a bug.

You should receive your payment by going into your Journal and clicking on the quest you completed. As for the Monster Musk recipe, you should receive that in the mail the next morning.

Though, considering you restarted the day after already having completing it, you will have to redo the quest you just did all over again. That's really unfortunate, because prismatic slimes have a very low chance of spawning and only appear while the quest is active.

Yeah, it took until late Thursday afternoon before I got another one. And I'm relieved to know that the recipe appears in the mail. His response was still unexpected though. I mean "get out of here"?

You just gave him a fascinating new toy, and he wants to play with it. Now. By himself.

There are a few rewards you get in the mail. Assume anything from the game is not bugged. Mods are hit or miss, check the forums but so far these modders do a good job if its for a current version of the game.
