Help with best profit for 1.6
So, I'm getting to the late game, trying to reach the perfection but you need a lot of money to make the watch, the totems, etc... And I was planning to make ancient fruit wine but not so sure about that now, as I accidentally put some ancient fruit into the dehydrator and actually seems to be more profitable then the wine and only took me one day to make it. And the only item sells for 5k gold, although it uses 5 ancient fruit. Does any of you already tried to use this method and knows if it's any good?

As with a lot of other stuff - it's relative and depends on what you want to do and how you want to do it.
Dehydrator is good to make money fast and with less work, but 1 dried ancient fruit sells for less than 5 ancient wines. And wine can also be aged in casks, though it is not a fast process.
So, if you have, say, 10 fruits and 10 kegs - better make wine, and better age it too.
But it you need money ASAP - dry whatever you have.
And if you have a ton of blueberries and cranberries - definitely dry them, unless you have a ton of preserve jars for some reason. And even if you do - still dry them, it's faster.

btw, Leapalot made a video with in-depth analysis of dehydrator. I don't ahve a link right now, but you can search on youtube.

It never occurred to me to dehydrate my blueberries and cranberries that I grow on Ginger Island! Don't really need the $$ at this point but I think I'll move my dehydrator there and add another 2 or 3 just for a bit extra. I only have 2 preserves jars at my farm.

probably part of the problem.

preserve jars are the most profitable way to process the majority of things

the dehydrator is only good for mushrooms IMO... and even then only the ones you can't put in preserve jars.

But now you can put ALL edible mushrooms in preserve jars!
And red mushrooms - you can't do anything with them anyway (aside from crafting into elixir).

preserve jars are pretty expensive to craft early game. tons of wood (if making coal with it as well) and large stone requirement.
basically the money you do make will be used to buying stuff from robin to get more jars to get more money

but thats what this game does well. either you take the time and farm up the materials or you spend the money to get them now.

it's not like you have to get all your preserve jars all at once.

just gather resources when you have spare time, buy some extra wood from robin when you have spare money after upgrading something, and make a few jars at a time until you have a respectable collection.:steamhappy:

The answer is still starfruit wine. It's hard to outgrow two sheds full of kegs, but if you do Preserve Jars and Dehydrator are fine for the extras.

dehydrating purple mushrooms and selling mystic syrup is pretty good tho

edit: also it can be started sooner with some basic mushroom logs then filled in with mystic trees later and kinda ramps up better... but hey, why not both!?

Adding to the discussion: with the smoker fishing becomes *very* profitable as a side income while waiting for wines to finish.

Setting up some smokers and a baitmaker at the volcano caldera, equipping quality and trapper bobber on the improved iridium rod and just fishing away, keeping lava eel bait in supply (ideally with preserving enchantment) and smoking all other lava eels you get you can easily reach a nice ~100k extra income per day.

If you're lucky with the extended family coming around in Mr. Qis challenges you can one up that income greatly by fishing out Legend IIs and smoking those. With both sale price buffing professions and artisan a single smoked iridum quality legend II sells for 42k, and you can catch as many as you like in the 3 days the quest stays active, so long as you dont fish up all 5 of the fish necessary for the quest that is.
