Tappers disappeared?

I have 4 tappers on trees, I collect them when I see them show up. Today I went to make a recipe that needed syrup and I realised I hadn't collected my tappers in a while so I went to check and 3/4 of them are just gone. Do they despawn? does something destroy them?

Tapper will only disappear if tree on which it was placed, was struck by lightning.

If that didn't happen, then it was bug.

they could have been hit by lightning, there was a storm since I last checked, but it also means all 3 trees were hit

where are the trees? are they on your farm? or off your farm? if you plant trees off your farm, people might path thru them and destroy your tappers.

Some of my things have been disappearing from inside my house. No spouse (but 2 cats) and the items were right in my front room. First two iridium bars from the pair of forges--I was so confused about where they'd gone. I quadruple-checked and the ore was gone....ok, odd. Then the fish smoker--getting really concerned. And now my workbench from the center of the room/three chests around it. I have zero mods; I'm baffled

Just started a new save (no mods) to try out 1.6 and I have had 3 tappers disappear overnight twice now. The first time I thought oh, maybe I restarted the day I crafted those without saving and forgot to remake them. Made 3 tappers, placed on the trees, went to bed, game saved, tappers are gone in the morning. Losing 12 copper bars in Spring 1 sucks! Surprised more people haven't encountered this bug? Seems pretty annoying.

Looks like it's just you and the OP.

Which trees and where did you place the tappers?

Edit: do you have lightning rods? This is the issue pointed out above.
