Same as any corporation.
I'm all for "playing by the rules", but sometimes you just have no other choice.
I would like to be able to keep (or get legally) the Rose, or Prismatic Jelly - purely for decoration! But it's not possible, and even if you get 2 jellies by having a burglars ring - it would still disappear.
Also - Penny's beds. Not possible to remarry her and get all of those different variants - and decorator in me is miffed!
Also - how using mods that aren't jsut cosmetic or Expanded (and variants) is much different?
People adjust time, and speed, and add Tractor and such...
All that said - I play vanilla, and play it normally (outside of decorating stuff).
But - it's a single-player game. And so - if people want to do it their way - it is their choice.
As long as they don't cry about game being broken after that.
Yeah I use skip fishing mod, just to save IRL time. I don't spend a ton of time playing games now, and since time pauses while fishing it can make the days way longer than the default IRL minutes if I spend the day fishing and have to play out the game for each fish. And I use the skull cavern elevator mod for similar reasons. Just doesn't feel worth it to me but I understand many do like the challenge.
On the other hand I'd never use the tractor mod because if I just automate all the stuff then I may as well be playing an idle or clicking game at that point. I can see some would want it to fast forward for decorating but I'm not really into that part of games.
I put place the prismatic jelly and the ectoplasm on a sign as a reminder that I finished the quest before giving the real ones to the wizard. Just make sure it's in a safe place where you won't damage it or change the sign by accident (I put mine on the left side at the bottom of the wizard tower stairs where nothing grows).
But - I want to put jelly on the little side-table in the kitchen, and sign wouldn't do.
Also - what about the Rose? You HAVE to use it for quest, there's no way around it if you are going for perfection. And yes, you can put anything on the sign, but what if sign doesn't fit with design I have in mind?
Let's say someone spawns a prismatic shard and teleports to the desert on day 1 to get the galaxy sword, all I can say is I'm glad they're having fun lol. Even ConcernedApe has that mentality as one of the messages you get if you change your name to an item code is CA being fake mad and then saying "just kidding, have fun".
I've been gaming for 22 years now and a fact I've learned is nobody truly cares about gaming accomplishments aside from people close to you who are also involved in the hobby. So, being weird about somebody, a stranger even, using cheats, like OP, is what's weird to me.
Conversely, Joja is all about skipping major parts of the game with money. If anything, they love going against the rules. Exploring the island in its entirety? Finding all of the items for the community center? Doing absolutely everything in the game? Nah, just pay with gold.
You can still have an amazing experience with cheating as that is entirely subjective. For me, if we use Skyrim as an example, the very first time I finished the game, it was with god-mode on. Even then, I thought Skyrim was the best game ever, at the time. That experience was amazing and it wasn't a waste. If somebody realise that their cheating made the game worse and ruined their enjoyment, that just means they would enjoy the game more if they restart and play without cheating.
There are no consequences to cheating in a singleplayer game. At worse, you will restart the game because cheating didn't make it fun.
So cheating in singleplayer should definitely be done carefully, and you should always question whether it makes the game better for you or not. If you conclude that yes, it makes the game more enjoyable, because it takes away hurdles that you don't enjoy, or because you don't care too much about the gameplay for example, great, go ahead.
But that's not going to be true for everybody all the time, and for some people at least it's very easy to get in the habit of cheating to overcome what could otherwise have been an interesting and enjoyable challenge. I know, because I fell into that trap more than a few times when I was younger, and I know others who have had the same experience.
I actually was modded from day 1 but that's because I got the game then realized it's WASD to move and my hand can't do that so I got the click to move mod. I was so disappointed at first, then mods saved the day. Thanks to CA for supporting modding.
I use a controller now for gaming but I didn't have one back then.
I don't really understand why anyone cares what others do in their own games, unless it's someone you play with in multiplayer and they're not following agreed-on rules.
There are no such things as universal rules or cheating in a single-player game.
I don't use exploits, or mods that make the game easier, but I don't care if someone else does, because it doesn't affect me or my game.
