But according to forums they should work anywhere - forest, quarry, desert... Though in the desert weather counts like in the Valley, and Island has its own weather.
And unlike lightning rods - Panels work in any season. But I'm not sure if snowy days count as rain or as sunny for that purpose.
But the problem is - you CAN put pots about anywhere, but you CAN'T plant crops in them outside the farm or Island.
In 1.5 you could do "tea empire" about anywhere (I think Wikedy did that and posted video like a year ago or something), but in 1.6 that was nerfed too, iirc.
On the Island though - you can put pots AND plant flowers in them almost anywhere on the West part (farm - right side of the river, and left side of the river too) except the beach part of it.
That said, you can load kegs on the road to the desert, which is hilarious.

I put mine here, as you can see, they work, you can see them if they are full if you run up the path to the north, nobody will path over them there. I got a tree farm in the spa I travel up to semi frequently and can check on my panels as I run past.
I am not lacking for batteries in an meaningful sense but I haven't gone full crystallarium shed this run.
I have a double wide walkway directly in front of the farm leading off to the right. Below that I have 4 side by side plots that are 5x5 tiles square with a garden pot of fairy roses in the center of each, and each surrounded by a narrow walkway. Below that I have 4 smaller sections that are 1 tile x 5 tiles and they hold 3 beehives with a garden pot at each end. Then another walkway across. That was so it would line up with the little bridge on the left. Then below that There's 2 more rows of 5x5 plots for growing, The first 4 across are Starfruit, and the bottom 4 are cranberries, strawberries, pineapple, and coffee. All are surrounded by walkways. I'm quite pleased with how it looks. And all my beehives are in one place. There's 76 of them.
