Any idea when we will get an 8 player map?

It's only 100g each to buy the extra cabins. Would probably be hard to design for 8, and then what about the 5, 6, and 7 player maps? Nah, just buy the guest cabins after selling some forageables. They can still get there day one, or two if you overnight sell instead of sell at the store.

Not so worried about the buying cabins but I know that in my group the 4 corners map is the most popular for 4 player games so I figured now that it goes up to 8 and octomap would be awesome

The octomap is just 8 people sharing the 4 corners map. People actually playing in groups of 8 is gonna be rare enough that it doesn't need a dedicated map when there's already a multiplayer-in-mind map, just use fences to divide the 4 corners into 8 rectangles if you wish.
