if you never check it the bats are probably better since more stuff can accumulate in there.

but the mushroom comes with foraging exp and a free dehydrator now which is nothing to scoff at either.

I used to always do the bat cave for some early fruit for the community center.
But now that saplings are available from Lewis I think mushroom might beat it.

You can grow mushrooms on logs now and get more at a time. I went for fruit because I forget to check but it keeps accumulating.

Mushrooms being every two days throws me off, so I now prefer the fruit. Especially with the mushroom logs. But it's also just a personal preference with how I play.

I always choose the fruit cave, just to get the CC done quickly. You can make mushroom stump things that gives you mushrooms in 1.6, and there's also the mushroom cave on Ginger Island, so, I find it "kinda" pointless having 2 mushroom caves. I also like having my fruit trees in my greenhouse, so, it saves me a little bit of money. Also, the mushroom cave doesn't award foraging exp, whereas the fruit cave does. So, it's an added bit of exp for, as I consider, the 2 most tedious skill to level (Best way being the stumps every day in the secret woods, which get's annoying fast).

The MAIN use for the mushroom cave, if you check it every day, is for energy. But, as long as you get your foraging to level 4 before the 15th, energy isn't too much of a problem thanks to Salmonberries and the double drops.

By the start of year 2, I usually end up blocking the cave off with a Coop or a Barn, since it becomes obsolete for me. I rarely check it throughout year 1 as well. Maybe twice a season, if that. It's "main" use for me is the fruits off of trees, since, as I said, I like having the fruit trees in my greenhouse.

But, it's general preference to be honest. If you struggle with energy by the time you get the 25k, go for the shrooms. If you are fine with energy and want to unlock everything quicker, go fruit cave.

ya the fact i rarely check the cave likely would make fruit best for me. in general

Even if you only sporadically check the cave (it's once every other day), the free Dehydrator alone out-values the entirety of the Fruit Bat Cave over the course of a year.

You'd normally need to pay 10,000G and use a Fire Quartz to make one.

That said, ONE purple mushroom spawn in the mushroom cave will out-profit the bat cave for probably an entire season. Just one. And that's if it's normal quality.

I tried the bat cave before, and I've seen entire weeks go by with either no fruit, or berries worth less than 20G.

To put that into perspective, a Common Mushroom, the WORST item the Mushroom Cave can give you, is worth 40. And you ALWAYS get no less than 6 every other day.

The ABSOLUTE MINIMUM profit on the Mushroom Cave is 240G every other day. Sure beats getting <100 in an entire week.

EDIT: Scratch that, the minimum profit of mushrooms is actually 325 thanks to the Dehydrator. And that's assuming you aren't using that same dehydrator for your Melons in the summer.

I always choose the fruit cave, just to get the CC done quickly.

The CC is always going to be dependent upon a Crocus Flower and a Nautilus Shell, which can only be found on the Merchant's cart, or during winter (it is possible for Demetrius to send you a Nautilus Shell, and you can save scum for it, as the item isn't decided until you open the mail). So, unless you get extremely lucky with the Merchant, you ain't getting the CC done before Winter.

As for getting the Greenhouse sub-goal done early, the Artisan Bundle asks for a lot of things, that you could skip getting fruit entirely if you go for animals instead (and/or use the Coconut and Desert Fruit options instead of Tree Fruit).

The only items the Bat Cave can give you that are REQUIRED for the regular CC bundles, are Apples and Pomegranates.

I did a save, the one before my current on in fact, where I finished the CC on Fall of Year 2. Why so late? Because I forgot to plant an Apple and Pomegranate Tree. I also tried a bat cave on the very same file.

How many pomegranates did the bats give me in almost TWO years? Not a single one. How many apples? One. Just one.

The Fruit Cave is not at all useful for getting CC bundles done whatsoever.

You are incorrect about the crocus. Crocus is easily achieved in fall with the greenhouse / winter seeds.

You need the winter seeds, first. Crafting them requires a Crocus flower, which you can grow with the Winter seeds.

Now, I suppose you could dump a winter root into a seed maker, something I never thought of doing until now that I'm looking it up on the wiki but I don't really see much of any other ways of getting it.

Even still, if you finish the greenhouse in the Fall, that's not really any earlier to get the entire CC bundle done, so doing the Bat Cave is still not going to make it any faster, as the only things the bat cave can give you are either skipped, or you get it through fruit trees, and/or relying upon the cave to give you those items is very dubious as it's quite likely the bats will never give you a pomegranate or the 3 apples you need.

You still need the Nautilus Shell, and not everybody is going to feel like save scumming for hours to get one.

Incorrect again, seed maker from winter root from the mines.

On the off chance you don't have a seedmaker you can also get winter seeds from desert trader.

I said "or I suppose you could throw a winter root into the seedmaker".

You were so quick to hit the "NAH UH" button that you didn't even read what I said.

But my point still stands that the actual earliest is still fall, with or without the fruit bats (this is assuming you don't mind save scumming for potential hours trying to get Demetrius to send you a Nautilus Shell and/or you stumbled upon one with blind luck at the Merchant Cart).

And since you have to wait until fall anyway, you could simply plant the pomegranate and apple trees which are guaranteed to give you what you need.

The only other bundle that asks for fruit is the artisan bundle (unless you're going to talk about grapes in the foraging bundle, but again, you're not finishing this before Fall anyway), and the Artisan Bundle gives you lots of choices of what to actually use to complete the bundle.

EDIT: Sorry, I got the bundles mixed up.

The bundle that wants the fruit? Jelly/Honey/Cheese/Goat Cheese/Cloth, and either a Truffle Oil, or since you're gonna plant the 2 fruit trees, use those.

The statement: "So, unless you get extremely lucky with the Merchant, you ain't getting the CC done before Winter." is wrong.

The statement: "You need the winter seeds, first. Crafting them requires a Crocus flower, which you can grow with the Winter seeds."

Is also wrong, and I frankly after your long asinine thread about combat rework I couldn't care less to read your edits or your word games. Maybe inform yourself better before opining and giving answers?
