Stardew Valley Family Sharing
Why can't two people play at the same time in Stardew Valley Family Sharing?

Ask Valve, not ConcernedApe.
Terms of family sharing will become more harsh soon, by the way, beta client have these already.

That's just how Family Sharing works. It's to prevent people from playing on the same online instance, so to say. You can both play on the same account but one person has to play in offline mode. You share the library but the one who owns it takes priority when it comes to online play.

If you're trying to play multiplayer with someone, you can play split-screen if you have a controller set-up. Create a multiplayer game with your preferred settings and at least 1 Cabin. Then when you're in-game, go into options > multiplayer and Start Local Co-op. Then both of you have to press start which will open split-screen.
