Take your time, dont feel rushed. Clear a little land, plant a few seeds and pet and feed your chickens.
Go into town and talk to villagers, they will give you tips and quests.
Have fun, there is no time limit on this game.
Talk to the towns people if you cross paths with them. They appreciate you for checking up on them. Or if you want to be a loner then that's fine too. But who knows. Maybe you'll find one that's interesting to get to know.
Oh but watch out if you're holding something important. They'll think it's a present for them and take it, then judge you for it. You won't get it back.
Second best advice is take your time, theres no timers (outside the day cycle), no punishment for messing up, no missables outside of some dialogue and most importantly, no need to do everything. Getting perfection is a choice, not a requirement. Its all about doing what you want and enjoying it.
Collecting the eggs each day from your chickens will give you some extra energy (or money), so when you're trying to figure out the game, it'll give you a little more room for error each day!
#1 Tip: RELAX!
Whenever asking for advice, you'll always get some min-maxxer who insists you should do X, Y, Z things to "make the best" out of stuff.
However, Stardew Valley is a chill game. There's no rush. There's no reason to hurry.
There's nothing in the game that is time-sensitive that you can't merely wait until the next year. This isn't Harvest Moon where you lose NPCs, or you're on a time-limit to fix a problem or what-not.
It is true that each season has things that are exclusive to that season, but that season will come around next year, just enjoy the game and take it in as you go along, and you will get all of your goals done.
Min-maxxing is mostly done by veteran players who've already seen most of what the game has to offer and like to challenge themselves to make as much money as quickly as possible, and they forget that this is not the typical way a beginner would play the game, and many tips that these types of people will give you would suck the soul out of the game and should only really be done if you've already gone through the game at least once.
#2 Tip: The one thing you can't change after starting the game is your farm type. Go to the wiki, and look at the farm maps and pick one that you think is appealing to you. This is the one thing you can't change unless you start a new save so you should pick one you like the look of the most. Don't worry about how good of a profit it will make you. Pick one that looks nice and matches the playstyle you'd think you'd enjoy most.
It's a game to lay back, relax, and have fun with very little consequence. Don't worry about what is "best," just experiment and let the game teach you it's ways, naturally.
My two cents.
Meadowlands farm will start with hay instead, did you do meadowlands?
