People aren't really a fan of Joja, even if a bunch of them shop there.

Sam's the only one who actually likes it. I'm not sure if their disposition towards it changes if you side with Joja though, because the Cola becomes an Artisan Good after you complete the purchases.

It's classified as a Trash item, so maybe because of that, everyone who isn't specifically coded to like it automatically hates it

To that effect, Leah is the only person who likes Driftwood as a gift.

To refer to my original post, it might be because the item is classified as a "Trash" item. In other words, every NPC except Sam is going to hate it, as they are all coded to hate Trash item gifts except in very specific circumstances (Leah liking being gifted Driftwood).

In other words, if Ape intended it that way, it would be because the town collectively hates Joja, or it could be an oversight that he didn't see the need to fix, if it was unintended.

I'd bring up the point that 90% of the time, you fish Joja Cola from the water, but to that effect, you can also give Alex the Complete Breakfast you found in Gus's trash and he'll be over the moon, so only Ape really knows.

They probably understand, that it's not worth buying it, when it easily ruins your sleep cycle. Though it would be funny, if the dev would implement a system to randomize the schedule of anyone you've gifted a coffee, espresso or cola the previous day.
