Finding a use for exp
currently, after maxing out the skills, exp still has no more use
what do you think would be a good way to fix this?

i'd say i think getting permanent bonuses, like how the books work, would be nice; combat would give defense & fishing would give luck, etc
but really, i don't think it would truly fit, as it doesn't lend itself to something infinite
i'd also say maybe to get money after a level, but by the time you max out the skills, you have plenty enough money
maybe it could be something like the prize tickets?
where you go to the shrine & get a prize; even simply having unique paintings & statues / furniture would be a nice thing to have

so, what would you suggest?

There is a use for XP.

There's a door in the woods south of the farm. Explore that (assuming you have all skills on 10).

Not sure what else you could possibly want. I mean, before this update, once you hit Lv10 in all the skills, that was it. I'm glad for what he did add.

(If only that stupid last level in Combat would pop...)

Many mods for skills past 10 and i even saw some that add new skills like 'Luck' or 'bin diving'

I think it's fine as is. This was a very late update (8 years after release) so there are many people who are at end-game who were able to quickly max out their EXP. But the original intention of this new system was to level it all up through a new playthrough and rewards like the iridium scythe that can harvest crops for you and so on are intended to be end-game rewards so anyone who basically accomplished everything pre 1.6 can get these "end-game rewards" right away. I already feel formidable so I don't think EXP really needs to do much more once you max it out.

If you're asking what good the books are, you can trade them in to the book seller for stuff. Nothing spectacular, but it's free stuff.

Expending some EXP to use on boosting a skill temporarily could be one thing ,for example.

Waste 10k EXP to boost your fish biting speed for 30 minutes, for one.
Waste 50k experience for a damage buff, or a speed buff. Waste experience to make a single crop grow much much much faster (like, the next day its fully grown)

I would also like EXP bars to be included in the game by default, so you can see how much EXP to the next level, or how much EXP in general you have.
