[SOLVED] The SMAPI installer does not open on a new computer (Win10)
Solution: I was able to install SMAPI through the SMAPI.Installer.exe file (\SMAPI version installer\internal\windows\SMAPI.Installer.exe)
If some mods don't work because of this method, I'll update the topic.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guys, I need help.
Preface: in January I moved from a laptop to a computer, installed what I wanted, incl. Stardew, but haven't launched it since then. I played it on my laptop with mods, the last launch was in October/November.
With the release of 1.6 I started the game for the first time in several months. A little later I wanted to add a couple of mods. I downloaded the SMAPI installer, but when I launch it, the console blinks and immediately closes. When running as administrator, the following message appears:
"The system cannot find the specified path.
Oops The SMAPI installer seems to have failed. The error details may be shown above."
I tried reinstalling the game, restarting the computer, installing different versions of SMAPI (3.18, 4.0 in particular), installing SMAPI manually. In the latter case, the game simply does not start.
Steam, like SV, is installed on the HDD (drive E, if that's important).
I haven’t tried running it on a laptop yet.
Please help me install!

UPD: disabling the antivirus does not help, nor does disabling the firewall.
UPD2: everything was downloaded from the laptop and installed, but I’m not talking about launching, because... everything takes a very long time to load from this laptop.

It's related to installing on e: find the directory and paste that into the smapi installer when prompted

OP, what the person above mentioned is likely the fix according to what you explained.

if that doesnt fix it for some odd reason.

i have a list of stuff you can try in my link below (with info in OP and in the comments area).

edit: fixed the link to drop on the OP, for some reason the link was dropping down near the comments... steam is buggy :/ edit: nvm its still dropping below the OP lol.

The problem is that the path prompt does not appear at all. Just this text: "The system cannot find the specified path.
Oops The SMAPI installer seems to have failed. The error details may be shown above."

Yes

then this "should" be your path to paste into steam launch options.

"E:\steam\steamapps\common\Stardew Valley\StardewModdingAPI.exe" %command%

copy/paste the whole thing even the "

im assuming the "stardewmoddingapi.exe" hasnt changed its name, as i copied that and changed the drive letter (to E: for you) from my launch options.

This doesn't help, because i can't install SMAPI AT ALL. Even manually (the game just won't launch).

i dont understand, did you install smapi by double clicking it?

smapi should launch first, then the game, assuming smapi is installed.

i tried, but the console blinks and immediately closes. When running as administrator, the following message appears:

so then maybe, your antivirus is blocking it from installing and you need to whitelist smapi?

disabling the antivirus does not help, nor does disabling the firewall.

check some of the fixes in the link i posted earlier, there may be something to fix your issue, i just needed to see your specs, as i had 2 other people with older laptops, that none of the fixes worked and since yours is a desktop and good specs, it should be fine.

there is also more info in the comments as you go through the fixes to see which may or may not apply to you, or fix your issue.

i found this that seems to match your issue.

SMAPI installer opens, then immediately closes

Q: The installer opens for a second, then immediately closes.

A: Make sure you’re installing SMAPI 3.13.1 or later, which fixed an issue with path names. If you are, try whitelisting the SMAPI installer with your antivirus, and redownload, as your SMAPI installer may have been mangled by your antivirus. If that still doesn’t work try these steps:

Open the installer folder.

Hold shift and right-click on the folder background.

Click the option that says Open in command prompt / PowerShell / Windows Terminal (depending on your Windows settings).

Run "install on Windows.bat" (if Command Prompt) or ./"install on Windows.bat" (if PowerShell or Windows Terminal).

Now if it crashes, the window should stay open so you can see the error.

https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Modding:Player_Guide/Troubleshooting#Game_doesn.27t_launch

last fix in "other issues" but right above "known issues".

this should supposedly allow you to see w/e error its having.
