any easy way to update other people's mods?
for personal use of course. i want to try to update this https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/1019
but im not sure how one would do so or how complex this is. its a DLL file.
does it need a special program to open this?

I am not entirely sure, but if you are familiar with the official Stardew Valley forums there is a pretty active thread over there where people usually take requests and have done a lot of unofficial updates: Unofficial mod updates[forums.stardewvalley.net]

if you are wanting to learn modding, then you would likely benefit from using the stardew valley discord, all the modders for this game are in that discord, i got tons of help (even direct messaging) with quite a few on maps on was making, even sending them stuff for them to look over.

you could also if you wanted, ask to make and post and updated version of a mod, assuming its abandoned (not sure how one goes about doing that) or ask if another modder might take over and update a mod.

if you were to make a mod basically the same, you could simply go about it differently, along with naming and post that as a "remake" of the old mod(s).

but im not sure on the specifics and how that all works or is allowed, ect.. but im sure the modders know.

that being said, did you look through all the mods, there may have been another mod that does that exact thing, at least im pretty sure i seen another having that feature and could be active and updated as well.

no problem, have fun modding, though i will say, loads of it has become a bit more complicated than simple "editing", some tend to end up being whole coding mods.

also map making is quite fun, just gotta learn a bit of functions before a map can be functional with like spawns placement when walking off screen going to a specific new map, or how maps link to each other, ect..

btw, for map making in this game you can use a program called TILED, which works well for most if not all tile based games, though there are other similar programs, but im only familiar with the one.
