Steam is "missing executable"

I try to launch the game through steam and it pops up a message stating "An error occurred while launching this game: missing executable" but if I go into my files directly it opens the game just fine. I am not sure what the issue is, but I am wanting to play the game with friends on a multiplayer playthrough and I am assuming I am going to need to be able to open the game through Steam in order to do that. I tried restarting my computer, completely uninstalling and deleting the file from my computer before re-downloading and it still pops up the message. Any guidance would be great!



EDIT; if you had mods before the 1.6 update, going into properties and removing the script was what fixed my game! I hope this helps!

Happening to me too! I tried disabling Firewall, Antivirus, verified integrity of the game files, running as steam administrator and deleting/reinstalling a bunch with no luck

If you played with mods before and now trying without you probebly forgot to remove the script you putted in the steamload for smapi

ok so its not just me with this issue! I did everything it told me to but nothing worked. However it launched just fine going into the file itself

HEY! I wanted to let everyone know that I figured it out, if you've ever had mods before the 1.6 update, like SMAPI, you have to delete that link in the properties that you added, as SMAPI is not currently up to date with the 1.6 update. After I deleted that link in the long text box in the properties the game popped right up. You have no idea how frustrated I was when the game was fixed just like that

but... mine works fine. you sure you didn't just forget to delete everything and then make a clean install of the updated files?

Either way I'm glad you found the issue.

...It also happened to me a long time ago. I felt dumb for forgetting I had the launch option changed. it stays changed even if you uninstall and then reinstall a year and a half later.

yup, if you had removed smapi and left the launch options, it would still try launching smapi, removing the launch options points at the game exe itself and launches it.

it has been up to date actually since a few hours after 1.6 dropped

your answers for w/e your issue is, isnt in this thread, smapi is up to date and working fine.

might want to create your own thread, adding pc specs and your issue in full detail.
