"Mayors shorts" quest

I was wondering, if I decide to keep his shorts as a collectors item and tailor them, will his quest be forever stuck in my questbook? or does it go away or something. I want to hold onto em as a collect em all type of thing but also I dont want his quest there forever

the trimmed lucky shorts should also work as a quest item so it shouldnt block the quest

EDIT: the quest will not disapear unless you give him the shorts however you can use a mod like CJB cheats to give yourself another pair of the shorts if you wanna keep it as a collection

Trimmed Lucky Purple Shorts can also be acquired by placing a staircase into the player's pants slot. So you could keep them as his default shorts, and should (I haven't tested) be able to use the extra Trimmed Lucky Purple Shorts to complete the quest.

if you wear the shorts in front of the mayor he gets really upset.
