Can someone explain sprinklers and give me the best layout for my farm? RESOLVED
I still don't understand sprinklers, I have been watching Twitch Streamers put sprinklers in the middle on a 3x3 plot, but when I did the same, it only waters 4 out of the 8 dirt surrounding the 1 sprinkler.

Thanks for all the responses. I now have a better understanding of how to not be a n00b at game.

That's because you're using the basic sprinkler. You need the intermediate sprinkler to water eight crops at once. You can tell the difference between the two by noting the little brown bits on the intermediate sprinkler that the basic one doesn't have.

That's not to say that basic sprinklers aren't useful of course, just that they're limited.

Normal sprinklers only cover the 4 adjacent squares, there probably using the quality sprinklers that water 8, theirs another sprinkler after that that covers 24 squares(or 5x5 lot).

basic sprinkler = crap sprinkler

atleast use quality sprinkler , and its as easy as making 3x3 and plonking the quality sprinkler in the middle

Just a hint : when you have unlock the iridium sprinkler, and if you want to maximise your farm (and if you want to have some funny surprise) put your splinkler in the middle but having two field of 5x5 together, and if you put 4 field of 5x5 beside each other, you have more chance to have funny surprise, by example, (land with 4 sprinkler and 4 land of 5x5 together)

A = plant, B = sprinkler, X = space where funny thing can happend with your plant :

AAAXXXXAAA
AAAXXXXAAA
AABXXXXBAA = 2 fields of 5x5 together
AAAXXXXAAA
AAAXXXXAAA

AAAXXXXAAA
AAAXXXXAAA
AABXXXXBAA
XXXXXXXXXX
XXXXXXXXXX
XXXXXXXXXX = 4 fields of 5X5 together
XXXXXXXXXX
AABXXXXBAA
AAAXXXXAAA
AAAXXXXAAA

In my test, the most funny surprise i have view, it's a fairy they have come in the night and have make my fruit growing ready for the recolt in the same night i have planted thing, but this is happend in a test with a field of 3x3

Edit : i have forget to say, to be able to view the funny thing, your crops mush be all of the same thing...

Or if you got both luck and money, you can brought iridium sprinkler (the one that spray 24 tiles) from traveling merchant. Cost 2... or 3k gold each. I got 5 of that sprinkler at my first summer (thanks a bunch merchant). That iridium sprinkler need a iridium bar as material, that means unless u brought it, u won't get it anytime soon

4k each in traveling merchant. Somewhat worth it, because its eternal.
The advanced one (3x3) is the best, because its not that hard to make a lot of them.
