I disagree with majority, Sebastian isn't cool
Sebastian seems to be the fan favorite of the Bachelors by screenshots of marriage and fanart. Most paint him up as some tragic guy who is unloved by everyone, even his own family. Honestly, I get a different vibe from him.

In the 1st heart event, both Sam and Abigail take interest in hanging out with him, which he shows annoyance at. He then makes a comment about how selfish people are right after mentioning Sam always wanting to be around someone. I'm sorry your mom came down to talk to you, I'm sorry Sam likes to hang out with you and has you as part of his band, I'm sorry Abigail (who is like you) wants to spend time with you, and I'm sorry I worked to get you to 2 heart affection for you to moan nobody likes or understands you when the people who do care about you get blown off and called selfish. :I

Do you happen to be straight male by any chance? Then it likely boils down to your inability to relate to the opposite sex.

Personally I was immediately drawn to Sebastian. There was little reasoning as to why I decided I liked this particular character, I simply found him to be the most attractive of the bachelors and figured he'd be a good match aesthetically as my own character is quite moody in her appearance as well.

It isn't surprising to me that he's (if this is truly the case) the popular choice, I have always gravitated toward his character's personality archetype and so have others like me.

Fanart? People are already making fanarts? Oh god, no, disturbing fanarts and obsessive fanbase completely ruined Undertale and first fnaf for me.

I thought he was cool until I followed him one day and found out he's a smoker! Ew!
And then his Mum saw me following him and goes "My son REALLY likes Obsidian btw", so seems like she's looking out for him for sure.

He's such a child.

Dunno why Shane got added as a marriage candidate, he's just been rude to me every time I've seen him. X(
Sebastian is an introvert with really bad anxiety. His mother barges into his room, no one takes his actual programming work seriously (he's not just working online, he's legit programming which takes a lot because even a small program can be hundreds of lines of code) and Maru is obviously doted on while he gets to live in the basement. He probably feels like the leftover remnant of something his mother would rather forget. The rest of his family are extroverts, and a lot of introverts have problems where their family tries to force them to be more extroverted.

I'm just saying. It's kind of telling that Sebs lives in the basement while his half-sister gets a whole huge room all to herself.
Sebastian was my first, and favorite, marriage. I also romanced Abby, Leah, Alex, Sam, Shane, Maru... I'm not married to Shane yet, but I think Sebastian will still hold first.

We don't really know Sebastian's past, only that his real dad is gone, and that he wants to leave Pelican Town. It could be that he's angry at his mom for settling in the tiny town, when he'd rather be in the big city. He often hangs out at the train tracks and ocean, which could be a nod to his wanting to leave. He saved up money by working online (probably due to having few job opportunities in PT) to get a motorcycle so he can leave the town.

It's shown that Demetrius doesn't really "get it" sometimes. He has a book about how to be a better stepfather, and has a cutscene or two where he makes Robin angry because he has to stroke his ego. Furthermore, if Sebastian did like his father, he would resent both Robin and Demetrius.

Sebby has a few dialogue things that say Maru was the "star child" of the family. He wants to be left alone, but also wants attention. That's just how introverts are. Maru plays an active role in the family, and has obvious talent. Sebastian keeps his programming to himself and I'm not sure if he invites his family to see him perform with the band in Zuzu City. (Sam's cutscene.)

On the topic of his friends, I'm not sure what their deal is. Sam and Seb don't seem to have much in common, aside from being nerds. I guess that's enough. Seb and Abby likely bonded due to their liking of the paranormal.

All this considered...
- He despises living in Pelican Town, and likely resents his mom for staying there. Despite this, he's willing to stay here, for the player.
- He's an introvert, but he happily moves in with you.

Plus, Seb has some of THE best dialogue post-marriage.
"I had a nightmare last night, so I got up and went for a walk... Want some coffee?"
"Be careful if you go down to the mines... Make sure to bring some sturdy boots."
"You look cold... Here, come closer..."
And he has one that's something like "You know that I love you more than anything, right?"

I just remember marrying Abby and all the dialogue was "Here, have a bomb for breakfast". :P

His step dad is not an extrovert. He spends chunks of his day ignoring outside communication to focus on work.

I didn't really pay attention to him because he's far to angry for me, does it say in a cutscenes that he's forced to stay in the basement? If not are you sure he didn't request his room there?
I've meant a lot of introverts who use there uncomfortable as an excuse not to try to relate to others and I could definitely believe he picked the basement for it's isolation from the rest of the family.
1. Quit projecting because you've met a few bad introverts and don't like them.

2. It never says anything, but if you marry him? He keeps talking about how he feels a lot more comfortable in the marriage home than the old home he lived in, and how he actually feels wanted. Including that Maru must be happy.

3. Oh, no, Demetrius is an extrovert. He's just also a workaholic. They aren't exclusive.

I mean... enough are. You just also need stable work and good looks.

If you're ugly, and don't talk to people, odds are you're gonna stay alone. If you're pretty and don't talk to people, there's a chance someone will approach you. :P Yay, genetics!
He likes being in bed until like ♥♥♥♥♥♥ 11.
I like this too

They are.

So long as they don't act entitled to women and whine about Nice Guys Always Finish Last.
Sebastian was the local tsundere until Shane came along. People like them because they're fixable. Similar with Penny as what I see is the favourite wife.

All the spouses have something up with them. I've only romanced Harvey, Shane and Elliot so far for the men.
Shane's an obvious alcoholic with depression and anxiety.
Elliot seems like he's Lord Byron half the time, and then lays in bed for days on end before coming out of his slump to recite poetry.
Harvey is crushed by his fears and eyesight preventing him from doing what he really wanted in life and in turn feels like he's missing something, paired with not being able to find enough clients to sustaine himself.

So Sebastian being a social outcast who doesn't feel loved (which I can't blame him because Demitrius is an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥) makes sense. They've all got baggage, just depends on whose you'd rather help carry.
In response to the opening post, the main subject of this thread, is all about Sebastian.

When he took me on a night ride on his bike, to look at the moon, the stars and the city skyline, I fell in love.

Then we kissed, while watching the city in the distance, on a chilly winter Tuesday night.

It was so romantic. I had to wait until spring to propose. It was worth it. End of story. :D
