Any tips for catching the Octopus?

Have max fishing, using the trap bobber, fishing on a lucky day, cannot seem to pull one in at all. I'm not even getting close with how much he jumps around. Was able to catch the Crimsonfish the first time he showed up and have never really had a problem with any other non legendary fish, but I'm lucky to even get the bar 1/3 of the way up. With that and his very limited spawn time makes it really frustrating.

Yeah, octopus is without a doubt the hardest non-legendary fish to catch. Hell, he is harder that most of the legendary fishes, but just keep at it. Trap Bobber and level 10 fishing, then just try it multiple times until you get the feel for it. The meter wont go up fast since he moves around so much, but once you have him on the line just keep going. It will take multiple minutes to reel it in, you can do it!

Literally just caught it in first cast of the morning. Got lucky I guess, this one he shot all the way up to the top like normal but then just stayed there until I was about 80% done, jumped around a little after that but not nearly what I was getting the past few days.

Keep trying, all the fishes have varied difficulty on the same species even the legendary fishes. Some times they are literally impossible with the bar moving like lighting. However on a subsequent cast maybe the 4th maybe the 10th they will be easier.

i got 2 of them in same day with lvl 9 fishing, trap bobber, iridium rod and fish bait. Just keep at it!!!

Wot.... But the rest of us still struggle, to this day.
update: lvl 7 no boosting items, just got it ;)
