Why do i think that?
1. The wizard (or willy, can't remember) tells you that throwing thrash into the ocean angers the sea creatures or something along those lines.
2. There are sprites for a sea monster available that aren't used in any way.
3. Sebastian tells you that he saw something dark in the ocean (he is on the west pier) on the day of the moonligh jelly festival.
So during the day of the festival you can't visit the pier, and during the festival you can't access your inventory - so maybe you need to teleport to the pier after the festival is over and throw trash into the ocean until the sea monster appears.
Its not a BIG secret. Something you didnt think of doing it or maybe if it'll work.
As result, dev updates the game (adding ways to get other statues) and specially mentions that there are more secrets.
Does this mean, that this "obscure" secret was that statue and now he is just adding more and more puzzle pieces for THE secret OR this statue_stuff is not even connected with this obscure secret, huh?
I mean, putting random stuff in the box is obscure enough.

No player have discovered this secret yet and the wiki is made by players, so obviously they think it is just decoration, because nobody proved otherwise yet.
In one of his interviews, CA said something that Chucklefish helped him a lot with the official wiki, setting it up, adding content etc.
Maybe the near future updates are made by players, since release - but before it was all made by CA himself (adding content etc.)

Players on the official forums have stated that they've witnessed the monster simply popping up under Willy's pier and swimming out to the ocean. Nothing else.
If you don't want to believe that because it's from the 'players' then why are you even in a discussion?
And it was a wasteland before, if you checked it on the day of the game release like I did you'd see a lot of wrong info that was fixed later and a very big huge amount of missing info, the sea monster wasn't even mentioned there and he's a very recent addition to the wiki.
The statues were added later. PPl on Reddit going through the cods and notice the changes he makes here and there.
What are you talking about? I believe in the monster, I saw it myself, I'm saying that no player discovered the secret that Concerned Ape told on the interview, the dev himself said nobody discovered it yet, and so it could be related to the sea monster, I'm saying that just because the wiki says the monster is nothing but cosmetic it doesn't mean that the wiki is right and maybe there is more to the monster than we know right now.
Also, no one found out which items the Letterbox and the Plant at Majors House takes
I saw a guy that have the game 100% post on another thread that the 2 hidden achievement are "Beat Journey of the Prairie King without dying" and "Earn 10 million gold", I can't confirm it myself because I don't have either.
