Does silo have a max storage cap?

technically no since oyu can take the hay out of it but they only hold 240 each... each one you add adds another 240 to the cap... you can see how much is in it by clicking on one...

Yes, 240 hay per silo. You can right click (or whatever you set 'use' to) on a silo to see your total capacity and current amount.

But you TECHNICALLY have unlimited storage, and you only 'need' one silo in order to cut hay. Once you hit the 240 cap in the silo, just go to a food bin in a barn/coop and take out hay. It stacks to 999 in one slot, so a single chest can hold thousands upon thousands of hay.

Though it is a bit cheaty to me.

Yes. Each silo can hold up to 240 hay. Walk up to the silo and right click to get how much is in there.

Each silo can feed 8 animals an entire winter (assuming it's full, of course). So if you have more than 8 animals you need more than 1 silo.

Right clicking on a silo will show total silo capacity on your farm. I have 4 silos so I see "960/960" when they are full. Total overkill for me. I'm going to get rid of two of them.

Stupid question... How do you gain access to a silo?... I'm still in my first year (fall atm) and don't have any animals yet but I don't yet see a way to build one.

there are arrows at the bottom of the dialouge box that cycle through what she can build... they ar ea little hard to see...

Ah... That may be it then, I've only ever seen her offer the coop which I've yet to build. Thanks. ;)

At the carpenter choose the option to construct farm buildings, then look for the arrows at the bottom to scroll through the available choices. They are kind of floating there and easy to miss. Took me several visits to notice them.
