How to farm for wine?
I've just been given wine from somebody (don't want to spoil anything). How do I start farming for wine now? Is it profitable or should I stick to crops?

Wine making is arguably the single most profitable activity in this game. You'll need kegs and fruits. Place the fruit in the keg, wait 6 days and you'll have your wine.

Wine comes from using the keg and putting in a fruit. It's quite profitable, something like 3x the value of the fruit. Takes 6 days or so to ferment though. You can also use kegs for producing pale ale from hops, which takes less time, is worth less money, but from what I've read is very lucrative due to the short turn around time. Starfruit wine sells for thousands.

it depends.. some wine like salmonberry goes for next to nothing, but starfruit wine goes for close to 3600 a bottle if I remember correctly.

You have to plant the wine and grow a wine tree. Fortunately, it isn't season-dependent.

Okay, fine. You have to learn the "recipe" to craft the Keg item, which occurs and Farming Proficiency Level 8. Once you have a Keg, you dump a fruit or a vegetable in there, and several days later it produces wine.

The value of the wine is based on the value of the input, so "brewing" high-value crops is the best way to use a keg. Proper use of inputs can be extremely lucrative.

That was a nice surprise. I put all the crystal fruit I forage into kegs now.

Basically it multiplies the sell-value of ANY fruit.... so end-game, Ancient Fruit wine is the tops! (Especially if you can grow it year-round in a greenhouse). :stardrop:

Wine is pretty profitable. I have a greenhouse growing Ancient Fruit, and a hundred kegs for making wine. I've seen people with much bigger wineries than mine, making way more money.

Do the barrels have to be in the greenhouse or barn? Do they have to be inside regardless?
Winemaking and preserving is a good way to increase the value of normal no-star produce.

I only got the largest size barn to put kegs in - otherwise they end up taking up space I could use for farming or trees. (Someone on one of the threads gave the tip, I did NOT figure that out myself!) As long as the kegs aren't actively brewing you can always move them around, so you can always change your mind about placement.
