But there are different seasons + evening/night and sunny/rain/snow fish so, look up the wiki for each fish and best time to fish for them.
1. make food that give +fishing, makes the bar bigger.
2. get the lure that makes the bar go down less fast then usual (saved me allot of time in the beginning)
3. just keep on fishing till you are higher lvl (each lvl gives you a bit of a larger bar to put the fish in between so)
4. get the best rod (dunno why but most fish are caught easier with it + lure)
i wish you good luck on your fishing matey arr!
I agree though fishing isn't very fun.
Fish also having varying levels of difficulty. Some of them are downright obnoxious. But with high fishing skill, an Iridium Rod, and maybe a Trap Bobber, they're generally catchable. Certainly, all of the ones necessary for the Community Center are, if you're properly equipped.
But some of them are almost impossible to manage if you don't have an upgraded rod and decent skill. Early in my game, I thought "Oh I'll just go catch a catfish." And the catfish was all "Lol nope".
The only one I'm missing for the Community Center now, though, is the Walleye. Didn't get the opportunity during my first Fall, so I'm waiting on second year Fall to roll around.

It helped me a lot
Edit: Ah, I see the Wiki has been updated to reflect this. I would have loved to know that during my first-year winter...
I can say the same after spending a whole winter trying to get a catfish!
Some of the legendaries get easy, yes, but not all. I had an easy time with the Anglerfish and the Mutant Carp, but the Glacierfish made me curse a lot. It could also be that I just suck at the fishing minigame. Yes, probably that. =P
fishing become easier along with your fishing level increase, as it should be.
you can even eat buffs.
by the way carps are not fun at all, keeping far too steady.
Agreed. I'm trying to level fishing myself and it's just an unpleasant grind. I really don't want to mod it to be easier, but that's looking better and better every time I play that mini game.
I wish the rods worked more like the farming tools, only requiring resources and money to upgrade instead of being unlocked by fishing level.
I just got the recipe for a +3 fishing dish. I'm going to try and cook that and hopefully that will help enough to make mini game bearable.
