How do you get a barn in this game?

All I have right now is the chicken coop. Every time when I go to the carpenter's place, she only has the coop for sale. I also need a silo to make food for my chickens.

There's little arrows that are hardly seen at first just below the image of the coop to change which building you want.

also, to get more animals, you need a big or deluxe barn/coop. they are upgrades instead of new buildings and will only appear in the list if you have an upgradeable coop/barn on your farm
