The game won't start
Running Windows 7 64 bit.

I click on the start button from steam, the game looks like its starting up as my friend list shows im in game but then it just doesnt start, no error logs or crash details.

Windows updates are installed, installed DotNet/XNA from the redist folder in the game folder, tried copying msvcr100.dll into syswow64, uninstalled/reinstalled stardew valley, run as admin/in compatability.

I don't understand what the hell the problem is? any help would be great, thanks.

I'm having the same issue on Windows 10 (64-bit). Oddly enough, the game was working fine last night on this very same system. Can't see any error logs. XNA is up to date, sound drivers installed, etc. Deleting the appdata folder didn't help, so I'm trying a full reinstall now; will put in an update if this helps.

Edit: No dice. I notice that in Task Manager, a "Windows Problem Reporting (32 bit)" entry pops up briefly before going away whenever I try to run the .exe. The app is indeed showing up in the problem reports under my Control Panel.

A dump of the output from that, in case it winds up being helpful:

Ok, so i got the exact same error as KingofBattle08.
I have XNA and .net4 installed (that came with win10, xna is definatley installed as i compiled an old game i made at uni and it worked.)
Unfortunately the game still didnt start and kept spouting the same arse error message.
Out of random thought i ran it under admin and it came up straight away. :steamhappy:

This might be a solution, you will need to inherit permissions for folders to be able to copy files into the system32 and sysWOW64 folders
http://freewisdoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/common_dlls_for_games.rar
Overwrite respective files in the archive in /Windows/System32 and in /Windows/SysWOW64

Library>Stardew>properties>local files>browse local files>stardew app>right click>properties>compatibility> change settings for all users> run as administrator and make sure that it is compatible with your windows.
this worked for me. Maybe give it a shot. Sorry if its messed up its my first comment.

Whenever I start the game itself, it is literally a black screen but I can hear the music and birds chirping in the loading screen. I have done:
-I reinstalled XNA and dotNET framework
-reinstalled the game
-deactivated steam overlay
-run from folder as admin
-tried ALL the kompability modes
and no changes. This is my favorite game and I'm so heartbroken that I can't play it.

OKAY! So someone actually helped me fix my issue so if anyone else is having the same issue, this might work:

Go to your AppData folder (example would be C:\Users\Katie\AppData\Roaming\Stardew Valley) and there is a "startup_preferences" file in there. Move that to another location (I put mine on my desktop) and try to launch the game. I launched it from Steam and it works perfectly now.

Hope this helps.

Had the same problem, tried all the suggested solutions and nothing worked. Updated java as well just in case. Eventually manually deleted all associated Stardew Valley files, reinstalled it, then went to the .exe folder and ran the game as admin. Worked!
