Report a translation problem
Edit: No dice. I notice that in Task Manager, a "Windows Problem Reporting (32 bit)" entry pops up briefly before going away whenever I try to run the .exe. The app is indeed showing up in the problem reports under my Control Panel.
A dump of the output from that, in case it winds up being helpful:

I have XNA and .net4 installed (that came with win10, xna is definatley installed as i compiled an old game i made at uni and it worked.)
Unfortunately the game still didnt start and kept spouting the same arse error message.
Out of random thought i ran it under admin and it came up straight away.

Overwrite respective files in the archive in /Windows/System32 and in /Windows/SysWOW64
this worked for me. Maybe give it a shot. Sorry if its messed up its my first comment.
OMG, seriously....clicking on the play game over and over again in frustration. Then I read this...see a few lines stating audio...I was like, no this can't be...it can't be that easy..*Plugs in head phone*....works....crys*
-I reinstalled XNA and dotNET framework
-reinstalled the game
-deactivated steam overlay
-run from folder as admin
-tried ALL the kompability modes
and no changes. This is my favorite game and I'm so heartbroken that I can't play it.
have you tried changing your screen rez?
Screen rez is the same as its been since day 1.
Go to your AppData folder (example would be C:\Users\Katie\AppData\Roaming\Stardew Valley) and there is a "startup_preferences" file in there. Move that to another location (I put mine on my desktop) and try to launch the game. I launched it from Steam and it works perfectly now.
Hope this helps.
Try this: Go to your AppData folder (example would be C:\Users\Katie\AppData\Roaming\Stardew Valley) and there is a "startup_preferences" file in there. Move that to another location (I put mine on my desktop) and try to launch the game. I launched it from Steam and it works perfectly now,
