So I don't know exactly how you would "divorce" a character by editing save files, but I do know how to go into save files to edit them. Make sure you first make a copy of your game in case you mess up. You'd have to do a lot of reading through it, but it should be possible. Go to your computers search bar and type in %appdata%. "Files appdata" should pop up on the list. Find the folder that says stardew valley, click, find saves, click into that and find the file for your character. It should have your characters name and a series of numbers next to it. Right click and open with notepad. It'll have all your information in there. if you press "Ctrl F" you can search for keywords. Try searching for names. I'm not certain how you would go from there but that's half the work. Be sure to save the notepad file before closing otherwise any work to the save data you do will not be kept. Hope this helps a bit.

What happens to your kids if you edit your files? Lol.
There was a recent post asking the same question, and someone gave a link on how to do it. In any case, the person who asked the question ended up writing up how they managed it in a guide on steam, so go visit the guides section and look for it.
OK, I don't get it - might as well ask in this thread, as opposed to all the other threads I've seen with similar characteristics.

Stardew Valley is a relatively easy game, almost relaxing in some ways compared to other high-stress high difficulty titles. It makes a nice change of pace to unwind, and generally there's no way to fail. Money is available, and you're free to develop and grow - it seems very much to be a friendly relaxed low-stress enjoyable game.

...so why is there so much saltiness in our forums here? Some days I think I wandered into a moba forum by mistake...

In version 1.1 divorce was introduced. Players can visit the Mayor's Manor where a small book inside will give them the option to divorce their spouse. A divorce costs 50,000g. After filing for divorce players have the option to cancel before the end of the day (until 10pm when Lewis' house closes). If they don't cancel their spouse will be gone by the next morning and their friendship level will return to 0 hearts. Under their name it will state (ex). any kids had in the marriage will stay on the farm.
^you can get rid of he kids too
What a ♥♥♥♥ thread.
Marriage is sacred.
Now the question is, can you re-marry the person you divorced?
As far as I have read in this thread, people have been relatively unhelpful. See this video for how to do it :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mnsN08rqi7s

yeah, go to the mayors house theres a book to use to get divorce, witches hut you can erase ex wife memory so it be like never been married
Go to Mayor Lewis' house and look for a book somewhere around his kitchen. Left-click it and file a divorce (cost 50,000g). Haley will be divorced the next day or the day after that. WARNING, if you divorce, you may never be friends with her ever again for she will experience sadness for a certain or permanent amount of time. Divorce is available in the 1.1 update of Stardew Valley
