When you sell 25000$ worth of stuff in your shipping crate total someone will come to your house and ask you if you want bats or mushroom in that cave. I suggest taking mushroooms :)
If you ask Shrooms are the more efficient choice
A difference is that if you don't check regularly fruit will keep building up, mushrooms stop at 6.
Fruitbats can drop fruit tree fruit rarely which might help you complete a bundle or two your first year. You still get mushrooms and fruit even during winter.
Mushrooms I've never seen a truffle from mine, but you can get the nice purple cave mushrooms rarely. Usually its common mushroom.
It means that, unlike other mushrooms, Truffles can't be foraged on your own.
The only way to get them (aside from the Traveling Cart) is to have a Pig dig one out for you. Pigs are expensive and require a Deluxe Barn so it's kind of late-game stuff.
Only way to get truffles is to have pigs and have dirt for them to dig in to find them.
Yes, Truffles are revealed by pigs but are Forage.
With that setup the Truffle would actually be Iridium-quality. It's not all that relevant because Artisan makes the basic Truffle Oil more valuable than Iridium-quality Truffles, but Gatherer's 20% chance is always very nice.
