That lil cave on your farm?
Is there a purpose for that? I was hoping it'd become an easier access to the mines.

Spoilers :

When you sell 25000$ worth of stuff in your shipping crate total someone will come to your house and ask you if you want bats or mushroom in that cave. I suggest taking mushroooms :)

Demetrius will eventually show up one morning and give you two options to develop the cave area. I won't spoil it for you. I don't know what triggers the event. I think it occurred in my game in summer, but I could be wrong.

Once you make 25k Demetrius will ask if you want it to be for fruit bats or Shrooms.

If you ask Shrooms are the more efficient choice

Later in the game you get the option to turn it into mushroom cellar or fruitbat cave, mushroom cellar grows 6 random mushrooms per day and bats drop random fruit sometimes.

You'll gain quicker access to the Mines later when you manage to finish the Boiler Room in the Community Center, which unlocks use of the Minecarts. This will allow you to quick travel between the Bus Stop, Town (Next to the Blacksmith), and Mines.

where is the cave that the stuff is in??

If you pick mushrooms you get 6 plots that produce 6 mushrooms every few days. If you pick fruits you get 1-3 fruit every few days.

A difference is that if you don't check regularly fruit will keep building up, mushrooms stop at 6.

Fruitbats can drop fruit tree fruit rarely which might help you complete a bundle or two your first year. You still get mushrooms and fruit even during winter.

Mushrooms I've never seen a truffle from mine, but you can get the nice purple cave mushrooms rarely. Usually its common mushroom.

What does this mean?

It means that, unlike other mushrooms, Truffles can't be foraged on your own.

The only way to get them (aside from the Traveling Cart) is to have a Pig dig one out for you. Pigs are expensive and require a Deluxe Barn so it's kind of late-game stuff.

Only way to get truffles is to have pigs and have dirt for them to dig in to find them.

Truffles also benefit from the foraging skill, despite it coming from animals. So if you have Gatherer at lvl5 and botanist at lvl 10, you will always get 1 gold truffle with a 20% chance to get a 2nd everytime you pick one up.

Yes, Truffles are revealed by pigs but are Forage.

With that setup the Truffle would actually be Iridium-quality. It's not all that relevant because Artisan makes the basic Truffle Oil more valuable than Iridium-quality Truffles, but Gatherer's 20% chance is always very nice.
