Would you pay for dlc?
Lets say concerned ape made a decent sice dlc that added new content what you be prepared to pay for and how much? I would gladly pay for new content if it was a city expansion or a bunch of new dungeons. Now I know it most likely will be free updates with additional content but I would gladly pay to help finance the future of this game. Maybe it could get a sequel in a few years?

I don't want any arguments we are just discusing what kind of dlc would you consider paying for or would you rather just have free updates.

this kind of game doesn't need DLC, no harvest moon ever had it and I don't think concernedape thinks its smart to put dlc in this.

That is true but no harvest moon ever added free updates. He has shown interest in adding more. But for now its bug fixing and balancing.

I probably would, but grudgingly. Instead of piecemeal DLC for a dollar each, I would prefer a proper expansion pack to the game. I'd easilly pay 10 dollars for something with some additional meat, story, characters, gameplay mechanics, locations, etc.

I don't think this type of game is well suited to DLC content.

I'd rather have Stardew Valley2, if it came down to it.

There's only a couple "DLC" that I ever thought was worth my time, personally. I don't like content that feels tacked on or separated from the rest of the game at times.

I used to like the old-style expansions pc games used to do ... but the DLC so far...not as much. :)

I'd pay for a DLC with more (exotic) fruits, new animals (male ones, please), maybe a new area... but not more than 5 dollars each DLC.

Yes I was just thinking of ways to help fund the game. A sequel would work best while it sticks to minecraft/terraria updates. Although quick queston how do companies make a profit with this sort of expansion?

More bachelors; five bucks for a ten-pack, or a buck each if I can pick&choose.
Town expansion with a new activity; ten bucks.
Manager mode, with people you can hire to work for you, and the player idles around the farm and town if you don't take direct control; ten bucks.
Magic abilities; depends on whether I need it or not.
"Buy the developer a cup of coffee" cosmetic item; 3 bucks.

I don't think the game needs funding anymore, concernedape has made a literal gem.

that is on steam alone, times that by 14.99$ and take out percentages that chucklefish probably takes out.
He's rich now, and still loves this game to update it. I'm so happy for ConcernedApe.
I think it would be smarter for him to invest into making a new game, versus DLC if the reason was "If it needs more funding", since he used a majority of his own funds before the game was released, and still pulled it off.

I'd love a big expansion, but not small cheap dlcs.
maestro Mar 8, 2016 @ 11:02am
If the cost of dlc was relative to the cheap price of the game and extended the time line of the game and not just new items, I'd go for it.

Glad the game is doing so well, but he's far from rich.

306,725 x $14.99 = $4.6 million

Steam takes 30% = $3.2 million left

Chucklefish probably takes about the same amount = $2.24 million

Not sure where dev lives, but taxes take *at least* that amount = $1.6 million

Which is, what, 10-20 years worth of income for a talented developer?

Certainly he's probably better off than he was during most of the 3+ years he spent developoing the game, but I don't think rich is the right word.
Klumpatsch Mar 8, 2016 @ 11:05am
Yeah, 1.6 million dollars, poor guy, how is he going to survive with such little money...

Seriously, he's a damn millionaire now, ONE guy, with ONE little indie game earned one and a half million. How is that not rich?
Noel Mar 8, 2016 @ 11:06am
1 million dollars is a lot of money..
PhilkIced Mar 8, 2016 @ 11:09am
Also I doubt the publisher is taking 30% unless they helped fund the developer, and even in that case a publisher won't get that much, I'd bet something more close to 10%.
Still is not far from that, he sure didn't make more than 2 mil.

Not if you live in metro San Francisco/LA/NYC/Washington DC and so on and so forth. :steamhappy:

No joke.

Edit: but still a goodly amount for ConcernedApe! And if he lives in an area where cost of living is pretty cheap, can go pretty far.
