I went for botanist, I can spot stuff and worms very easily and I know where they usually spawn, so I don't think Tracker is really that usefull personally.

Most foragable items aren't all that hot, but a few (grapes, spice berries, crystal fruit) are good "free" inputs for wine-brewing, and having gold stars make the resulting wine more valuable (or at least, so I'm led to believe).

My personal leaning is towards Botanist, but you can't brew something if you can't find it. Either selection will probably work out fine.

More or less my thoughts on it too. I just wasnt sure if it also revealed non worm marked forage stuff? Like i find random roots and stuff while digging unmarked places at the beach and stuff in winter.

Eh, ive already got a greenhouse based ancient fruit winery going on. Either way picked botanist, I know where most stuff spawns generally, making it automatically all be better was more valuable.

Ok. So unexpected bonus from this. It considers all truffles my pigs find as foraged for purposes of the perk, so every truffle i grab is gold star now.

Gold star truffles also come from happy pigs. I don't think they are affected by the level 5 foraging perk, occasional double forage, if they are affected by botanist it might be a bug...You should test this by pissing off your pigs. xP

Truffles are affected by the double forage perk, it's actually a really good combo, have a barn full of pigs and get 2 truffles for each pig most of the time intead of 1, each truffle oil sells for something around 1200, very good profit for little work as they don't require milking like the cows. Only downside is that you get nothing on winter.

Do gold star incredients increase value of produced products (wine etc?) From what I have read it doesn't?

It doesn't, size is what affects the final product like large eggs or large milk, but the quality of the original item won't affect the quality of the final product.

But the produced product is always worth more than the raw material, even if it's a gold star one.

I would say if you are going to use jars / barrels then tracker would be better, as star rating means nothing and with tracker you can save some precious time finding the stuff quicker

My pig was like 1.5 stars, and I havent gotten a not gold since then. That was like 2 patches ago though, and i started a new game, so it may have been a bug at that point.

tracker = quantity
botanist = quality.

and if you wanna complete your artifact collection , i suggest tracker.

Botanist + Seeds winter = all Gquality forage
