There is a sea monster, but he's just some kind of easter egg that appears on the sea from time to time, you can't catch him.

Never saw it myself, only seen pictures, I think I would sht my pants if I'd seen it without knowing beforehand.

I saw it while I was fishing in the sea in the rain. Far as I can tell it does nothing. I cast right on top of it, or close as I could.

I've seen it. It was a snowy winter night and it just popped up by the dock near Willy's hut and swam out to sea. It was quite spooky

It never bothered me. having played a bunch of harvest moon games I figured it was just a subtle nod to all the kappas that end up in those games. though if they really wanted to be true to harvest moon we should be able to marry him. lol
