I very rarely find myself going to the wiki unless I've been stumped for several in-game days. The thing I go to most often is for--funnily enough, relating back to the first topic--which locations, times, weather, and seasons you can catch the fish. There's a lot of them, haha, and some only show when it's sunny or rainy or summer or winter, et cetera.
But I really think that moments when you need help for this game will be few and far between.
I guess I'd say it depends on how you like to play...
Personally, I like to know all the specific details about stuff, so I like to look things up. As such, I do wish there was more information in-game (such as scarecrows showing their AoE, maybe a more detailed list of what you sell as well as a log, to keep track of stuff, etc.).
But for the most part, the game is pretty intuitive, at least as far as basic gameplay is concerned.
If you're concerned about maximing your profits/general efficiency, it can be useful to read up on stuff, but the game is very playable without doing so if you prefer a more casual pace and want to discover things on your own.
