winter worms
I'm not sure how many already knew this but something I just discovered. If you look at the ground during winter you will see what look like a trio of wiggling worms. If you use your hoe on them you can find stuff like lost library books and foraging items.

They appear during the whole year (but are more numerous in winter) :)

This isn't just in winter; the worms can be found year-round but are just easier to see (and seemingly more abundant) in winter. However, nice tip for others who may not have noticed.

They are probably more numerous in winter because they are the source of one of the items you can forage in winter, snow yams.

Hm ... around half of the worms I have uncovered in my first winter revealed lost books from the library ... only a tiny minority were snow yams

Go to the quarry and the beach and hoe them, you'll get a ton of yams and roots.
